As a 15 year old, many moons ago, arriving in London, I soon learned that the English queued in an orderly fashion, be it at a cinema, a bus stop or anywhere whilst waiting for your turn. George was older than I and came from my village, had been in the UK for a year and half and was my "chaperon" in my early days in London. "Don't talk loud in Greek" he would say to me, "its rude, the English don't like it" " Stand in the queue" he would command.
That was nearly 53 years ago , I learned a lot from George, a dear friend who unfortunately has passed away.
I have not used the bus for a very long time now until that is a few days ago when my son " borrowed" my car as his was being repaired . I don't live that far from my work but started using the bus to get to work.
As I arrived at the bus stop, I could not help noticing that there was no queue, everyone waited in a disorderly fashion, jumping on the bus completely disregarding the traditional and ex- British fashion of forming a queue.
The buses are pretty full up at 7 am in the morning and 6pm in the evening, but everyone just rushes to get a foot on the bus without the slightest consideration of those waiting.
Needless to say 99% are foreigners, some spitting in the street oblivious of the disgusting habit.
Its time for me to make an exit from the fast becoming third world nation !!!
