Thinking of opening hairdressers/barbers

Postby bigblue 68 » Mon May 26, 2014 2:29 pm

Hello all !
Im thinking about moving to Cyprus and considering opening a hairdressers/barbers probably around the Paphos region .
I am putting out feelers to see what response I would receive from potential staff . You could be either qualified or if you are interested in becoming a barber , then I would be prepared to train people . The position would be on a self employed basis .

Hair dressing / barbers is a regulated profession in Cyprus. You need a licence to trade plus a licence for the business.

Good luck though.

Good luck to you mate, you will need it!

We have no shortage of hairdressers/barbers, and most people can't afford to use them now.

Thank you for all the positive comments , but having worked in Spain for 3 yrs until 2013 where the economy is on its knees and still managed to be a success, im still prepared to give Cyprus a go ! It seems as though the area needs a good quality Hairdressers/barbers at very reasonable prices .

You cannot just buy this licence, you need qualifications, so many years experience and you have to sit a test in Cyprus.

I will dig out the hair dressers federation contact details later.

Thanks for the reply fortunately I have 30 yrs experience and qualified in 1986 . So getting my licence shouldn't be too much of a problem .

Its a good business for a newcomer to start in Cyprus. 30 yrs experience is a good starts as Cypriots are very hairy. You should also offer hair removal services and mono-brow reductions.

I would look very carefully at the market. There is already a sufficiency in number of hairdressers in Paphos and bearing in mind the personal nature of the relationship between hairdresser and client it may be tough market to get into.
