The funny thing is that when referring to God each one of us has the same thing in mind. A Creator!! Some of us say- erm... I don't know if there is a "creator" or not, and if there is one, what he wants from us and what our purpose of existence is, but there is not not even on of us that can refuse the fact that there is a plan of infinite complexity and accuracy both in design and functioning in this world.

I'm not sure you can say that with any degree of certainty. After all, every organism is here because of mistakes in their DNA replication.

I know the circular argument would be that maybe those mistakes are by design. Well, yes they are in terms of mistakes have to occur otherwise the organism is more likely to go extinct and not produce variants that survive in changing conditions (a given on this planet).

We are in the hands of mathematicians, physicists, scientists and engineers. God has never ever had anything to do in our development nor will it have any influence in our future.

I have no problem with believers but knocking on my door in the middle of my supper or during an interesting programme I may be watching to convince me otherwise pisses me off no end.

Hello my dear friend. It has indeed been a long while. I’m off the USA for my son’s graduation ceremony tomorrow. Flying from Heathrow terminal 5. I’ll be there between 11am and 1pm. If you are flying from the same terminal and similar time we could have a glass or 2 of your favorite nectar. Enjoy your time with your grandchildren. I have 2 and I know how much they mean to us granddads.

I believe the truth to lie somewhere in the middle. Perhaps religion was a way for God to control people through doctrine, as a means of raising or nurturing humanity without actually being there.

I believe everything is calculated by God in order to evolve mankind and bring to light as much information as possible. Unfortunately to make these things happen results in the world turning not in everyones favour. People die, there are horrible incidences which occur and yet they do because these tragedies are part and parcel of the evolution of knowledge.

Think of it like this, as God was calculating the evolution of the world, on the 23rd of December 1980 he saw that John would be born, being God and all, he could see that John would lead a life which could potentially make an important scientific discovery, yet in order for John to witness whatever event would lead him to this discovery, 2000 miles away Michelle will accidentally walk in front of a speeding lorry.

While we ask "how could there be a God when things like this occur in the world", I believe we are working towards a greater and wiser future, it's just that as human beings and individuals we cannot make sense of Gods plan, cannot see the bigger picture or the connections and end results between events, but I believe God to be the master of statistics, and thus knows exactly which set of wrongs will equal a right! ;)

We witness the bad see it as proof of Gods absence, while I believe all the truths that have come to light were the result of all the negatives that have occurred...

So by using our human logic, we can not trace any purpose for our existence, nor any purpose for the existence of anything that our intelligence can conceive. The question then is why don’t we commit suicide and get over with it? Why don’t we just detonate all the nukes we have and put an end to everything on this miserable planet?

The choices do we have are only these:

a) Subscribe to all those nonsense passed on us by lunatics of all relegions.
b) Accept the fact of our meaningless existence, and just go through our life circle, aquiring experiences of happyness and pleasure, but also of pain and suffering all accounting for nothing in the end.
c) Accept the fact that all living beings have been programmed to make their best to survive while at the same have the ultimate fear for "death". Which means we were created to form an army of SLAVES for some specific reason!

No matter how much it hurts, no matter how much it turns our human pride into trash, "c" seems to be the truth.
And if "c" is the truth then we are NOT a product of the Creator.

On the creator.

On the "intelligent design" thesis according to my son, nature tries random but repeated experiments in design, ie mutations in DNA and what works for a time, because it finds a niche, survives until that niche disappears. As other niches emerge so in due time new species of creatures, which may be similar in some ways to extinct species which had filled similar niches in the past, then emerge.
