CYPRUS is the third safest place on earth to have a baby, according to a study published in the Lancet medical journal on Tuesday.
The study looked at several aspects of natal care and ranked 195 countries in terms of safety to be born in, which is derivative of neonatal mortality rates per thousand live births in 2012.
Cyprus ranked third with a score of 1.5, behind only Japan and Singapore with respective 1.1 and 1.2 rates of mortality per 1,000 births.
Further data collected had Cyprus topping the list of least neonatal deaths annually with only 20 in 2012 – Estonia followed with 25 – and ranked it 11th in stillbirth rate per thousand total births with 2.6 – a list Singapore topped.
