Had there been any support for something like that it would’ve been implemented by now but history shows that there isn’t.

It’s all empty talk and it doesn’t look like something like that will ever be implemented.

Why? are the negotiators wasting their time?

Not only are they wasting their time but we are in a constant state of “tolerance of the stagnation” because America doesn’t want to upset Turkey right now…

…however, if Cyprus ever officially proves a certain quantity of hydrocarbons and above you’ll see a different America because all of a sudden Turkey’s “importance” will lower.

America’s biggest problem right now is Russia getting ever more powerful each year and their inability to contain them as a typical control freak would like.

Russia’s seemingly endless natural supplies of oil, gas, and coal and its ability to hold the West “prisoner” for these supplies is worrying the US stupid because it is shaping the future in Russia’s favor as the recent events in Ukraine have highlighted, so any news of alternative supplies is good news to them.

Now Cyprus and Israel have recently been touted as having oil/gas supplies of a certain quantity and of course there’s a certain amount of financial investment and time required for these to actually materialize, therefore….

If it turns out that these supplies will aid in the weakening of Russia; even for a short but significant period of time like 5 or 10 years, then I assure you that in Americas’ eyes Cyprus’ “importance” will skyrocket and Turkey’s will plummet.

Such an eventuality will lead to America changing its policy with respect to Cyprus whereby what the RoC desires will now go…

Americas’ stance will go from:

“We are pretending that there’s some kind of peace process going in Cyprus because we don’t want to lose Turkey’s support but we don’t want to see Cyprus in Turkish or Muslim hands either so stagnation reigns supreme for now”

To:

“Sorry Turkey but Cyprus is helping us defeat our #1 enemy/threat and they don’t want you around anymore so start packing”

America knows very well that the government of the RoC is not interested in cantons, or “shared” power with Turkey-supporting separatists. They’re not stupid…

Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aleksey Meshkov will pay a visit to Cyprus May 28-29, during which he will be received by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

He will also have meetings with Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and other Foreign Ministry officials as well as with political party leaders.

Counselor and Spokesman of the Russian Embassy in Nicosia Sergey Filimonov has told the Cyprus News Agency that Meshkov will discuss during his meetings about the Cyprus-Russia bilateral relations and the Cyprus problem, as well as international issues, including the crisis in Ukraine.

Asked if issues related to the economy will also be discussed, Filimonov said that they will be discussed in the framework of bilateral relations. “Issues regarding all aspects of the relations between the two countries will be discussed,” he noted.

Filimonov said that Meshkov is responsible for issues related to the Eastern Mediterranean and South Europe and that this will be his first visit to Cyprus, in the framework of an exchange of visits between officials of the two countries.

Asked if Meshkov will meet during his visit with Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, he said that no such a meeting has been scheduled.

Responding to another question, Filimonov said that President Anastasiades will pay a visit to Moscow, but it has not been decided yet when it will take place.
“However preparations are underway and agreements to be signed during the visit are being drafted,” he noted.

Asked about the visit of US Vice President Joe Biden to Cyprus, Filimonov noted that the visit is paid in the framework of Cyprus-US bilateral relations “and it is our opinion that to a great extent the reason behind it is the upgraded interest of the Americans in the Cyprus problem due to the situation in the South-Eastern Mediterranean.”

Asked if he refers to the issue of hydrocarbons, he replied: “Of course. Since significant hydrocarbon reserves have been discovered in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, our assessment is that one of the reasons for this visit is the interest of the US in these reserves.” — (KYPE)http://famagusta-gazette.com/russian-deputy-fm-to-visit-cyprus-next-week-p23656-69.htm

“The United States - and I want to be clear on this - recognises only one legitimate and legal government of Cyprus,” he said, adding that his visit would not change that. “This is the position of the entire world,” said Biden.

“I wanted to come to primarily underscore the value the United States attaches to our growing cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus. This relationship is now a genuine strategic partnership which holds great promise.”

"A strategic partner"....a huge statement to make, never heard that one before with regards to Cyprus. Is this a prelude to Cyprus joining NATO?

Hello you GCs are well known for being bed chums with the Russians, so dont think that the Americans are going to trust you because you have found a little gas in the med which in itself is a matter of dispute and could cause a war in the region, control of this unstability in the region is the real prize the Americans are after, control means power.....the Americans will never trust you.
