America’s biggest problem right now is Russia getting ever more powerful each year and their inability to contain them as a typical control freak would like.
Russia’s seemingly endless natural supplies of oil, gas, and coal and its ability to hold the West “prisoner” for these supplies is worrying the US stupid because it is shaping the future in Russia’s favor as the recent events in Ukraine have highlighted, so any news of alternative supplies is good news to them.
Now Cyprus and Israel have recently been touted as having oil/gas supplies of a certain quantity and of course there’s a certain amount of financial investment and time required for these to actually materialize, therefore….
If it turns out that these supplies will aid in the weakening of Russia; even for a short but significant period of time like 5 or 10 years, then I assure you that in Americas’ eyes Cyprus’ “importance” will skyrocket and Turkey’s will plummet.
Such an eventuality will lead to America changing its policy with respect to Cyprus whereby what the RoC desires will now go…
Americas’ stance will go from:
“We are pretending that there’s some kind of peace process going in Cyprus because we don’t want to lose Turkey’s support but we don’t want to see Cyprus in Turkish or Muslim hands either so stagnation reigns supreme for now”
To:
“Sorry Turkey but Cyprus is helping us defeat our #1 enemy/threat and they don’t want you around anymore so start packing”
America knows very well that the government of the RoC is not interested in cantons, or “shared” power with Turkey-supporting separatists. They’re not stupid…
