Hi Get Real,
I have to admit that this was a great post - and it does have a great deal of meaning attached to it. In today's world, whether people would see it as an advantage or disadvantage, we live and process our lives according to our new national identities. For instance, you could regard yourself as a Turkish Cypriot, born and raised in London within the umbrella of the EU - strange? Not really! My eldest son is American by nationality, regards himself as Turkish Cypriot ethnically and speaks fluent English, Turkish, Greek and German. What would that make him? If I asked him today if he were stuck in an airport and needed governmental intervention, I bet he would say "American". In other words, the world is changing everyday and so with it are certain nationalistic attachments. For the better or worse, I am not completely certain? But, I would like to say that at least it has broken many of the formerly unaccepted nationalist NF barriers that existed pre-modern times. However, if talking about self determination, the trend of many of the EU nations and certain new states cropping up in the world (Israel in 1948, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo and etc), I would say this new way of thinking actually promote respect for another person's wishes, Statehood and Acceptance. That is why the TRNC will eventually be accepted as similarly to one of those other new states - because the world no longer cares about the establishment of new states within states.
P.s - if you ask me about a Kurdish state within Turkey, my answer is I don't care as my concern is only for the self determination of the TRNC. Turkey can do what ever it has to do with its Kurdish state issue of affairs as it doesn't concern me so please don't try to retaliate with those types of scenarios.
