A friend posts this report elsewhere of continuing tension around the "uni" , with Kurdish students being singled out for "arrest"...
"... ANF - News Desk 2014-04-09
After racist groups attacked Kurdish students in Nicosia, dozens of Kurdish students were arrested, 8 being remanded in custody. On 7 April Kurdish students at the Near East University in Nicosia were attacked by a group of between 50 and 60 people, reported to be Turkish neo-fascists and supporters of the Gülen movement. 2 Kurds were wounded in the attack, after which other Kurdish students came together and repulsed continuing assaults.
Special security police on the campus then arrested 6 students.
Tension continued yesterday when dozens more students were arrested.
48 students appeared in court this morning, with 8 being remanded in custody and the other 40 being released.
A Kurdish student said: "They are still looking to arrest another 140 Kurdish students."
It has been claimed racist groups are engaged in a Kurd-hunt in Nicosia.
The student continued:
"Since last night Turkish neo-fascists are driving around the streets looking for Kurds. We're scared to go out." The Kurdish students want BDP and HDP MPs to make representations on their behalf in Ankara. ..."
Still haven't heard any comments from the usually verbose Mr Talat on this affair.
