New ICG on Cyprus

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

New ICG on Cyprus

Been saying this is were it's leading for a while with talks behind the scenes

1)formal partition
2)massive land adjustments for recognition
3)both countries in the EU

also the greek Version by a well respected greek journalist about a year ago with a bit of a difference with the actual EU parameter

This is complete nonsense. I could barely get through the first few lines without bursting into laughter. Turns out it's written by Hugh Pope, a known Turkish lackey.

Recognition of the pseudo-state and EU membership!

This must be what Turkey plans to argue for when the current talks fail.

There is no chance that GCs will recognise a state in the occupied areas and allow it entry into the EU. This is Turkey's dream scenario.

Fuck me! The ICG have just blown their cover as a bunch of second-rate Turkish propagandists.

To think Turkey paid good money for such a blatant piece of rubbish. They can dream on!

The tc and turkey in return will have to hand over compensation, vast land to the gc and troop withdrawal with the scrapping of the 1960 treaties which will also put the sba into direct roc control.for recognition and eventual EU membership.

True, DISY might be in favour of a loose federation but this is something else. The joint statement which DISY have committed to does not advocate two independent states with two external sovereignties, two international governments.

This is not something that is being argued for seriously within Cyprus. But is an attempt by outsiders to divide the island and convince Cypriots that this is the best and most practical solution.

In other words, forget about the invasion, forget the occupation, forget international law, forget the UN resolutions.

This is just Turkish propaganda and it makes no difference if it's a lackey like Hugh Pope or a Greek journalist who is advocating it.

Who cares? It was rejected in the past and it will be rejected again, if the president is foolish enough to accept it for referendum.

Why does it worry you? No country is going to recognise the outcome of the vote in Crimea – except Russia of course. And declarations of independence haven't changed the status of the ROC or UN resolutions – as the Turks know only too well. It's all about international recognition and international law which is why Hugh Pope and Turkey want the GCs to grant 'recognition' to the pseudo-state in the occupied areas. Because it's in our 'interest' of course. What a load of nonsense!
