Watch (digital) TV from your PC

I’ve always liked the ability to watch TV from my PC so I’ve always had TV cards (AverMedia and Hauppauge) and have all variations like USB, PCMCIA, PCI, but ever since we’ve gone digital all my old analog receiver cards have had to retire and are collecting dust so I’ve been on the lookout for a digital card for a while that doesn’t cost the earth.

Luckily I recently took a cheap gamble and it paid off. I bought the Crypto Hybrid TV PCI card currently available at Public (Nicosia) for just €20.00 and I was blown away because it works perfect and cost peanuts!

I’ve had cards in the past that cost 3 times as much and were buggy… especially from AverMedia, so I was laughing big time with this one!

It’s a full analog and digital MPEG4 (DVB-T) card which you can see and read about here…

http://www.e-shop.gr/product?id=PER.603540

So basically this card can scan and save analog and digital (DVB-T) TV channels from your home TV aerial.

You should get the latest driver from here… (don’t use the supplied CD)

http://www.cryptoelectronics.gr/common/downloads.aspx

…but not the player (software) because that’s the buggy TotalMedia v3.0 whereas you can download the much better TotalMedia v3.5 from SoftwareInformer or other download site.

Btw, if you have a better TV player (software) recommendation to make do post!

Good luck with everything and hurry while stocks last!

Whats the point of getting a "Hybrid" card when all channels are now digital? Why not get a digital only card? Also that model can not output HD... and maybe it can not receive HD channels either... can you get RIK HD?

During setup you can choose “Scan for DVB channels only” and thus ignore analog signals so it's not an issue.

Yes, I can get RIK HD… the Sochi winter Olympics nonstop at the moment and it looks pretty good.
