It would not make sense for the republic of Cyprus to pass a law allowing the TC's to vote and participate in European elections, automatically enroll them (only them in the occupied areas outside of the RoC control) and then indiscriminately prevent some of them from voting on the day.

I have read reports on yahoo that about 150 were turned away at the polling station. Cyprus mail says 400, now a small eye witness puts it closer to 2000 !! What a huge variance.

Now, these candidates from the occupied areas and some of those who could not vote are looking to sue !!

The RoC imbeciles created this rod which is now being used to beat their back by these under performing hypocrites. Who could not get enough votes, did not get enough votes and probably could not (or would not) do anything for the Republic if by some miracle they got elected anyway.

The whole thing stinks. ensue fraudulent claims from the indignant candidates and "voters" galore.

The UK made a huge mess by erroneously not allowing EU citizens residing in the UK to vote in their MEP elections. I haven't seen any calls to sue the UK government by these disgruntled people. These things happen.

Would the outcome have been seriously different? I don't think so. Therefore these TCs have not been materially affected. If they have any emotional distress, they should take it up with the occupying army which causes sooooo much extra (emotional and financial) 'inconvenience' for every single person and political entity in Cyprus!

EU citizens living in Britain have been stopped from voting after confusion over a series of registration forms. Prospective voters arrived at polling booths around the country on Thursday only to find that while they were able to vote in local elections, officials would not give them ballot papers for the continent-wide elections.

Their case will be thrown out in to the trash can of the "TRNC".

Şener Levent is alleging in his Afrika newspaper that the Turkish Cypriot left-wing CTP sent people from door to door urging them to vote for AKEL. It is interesting to note that AKEL performed better than expected.

Voices in the occupied area of Cyprus against the Turkish occupation
Under the title "The guardians of the 'plundering system'", Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (21.07.14) compares the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus and the developments that followed with the actions of Israel in Gaza and reports the following:
"You, who are so-called by the side of Gaza, who support Palestine and the Palestinians while cursing on Israel, you are so-called 'supporters of peace'. You, who are running to celebrate under the name of 'Watch of the Dawn' for blessing a war while Gaza is bombed, are the guardians of the plundering system created in the northern part of Cyprus together with 1974. Israel is building settlements on the Palestinian lands and settles Israelis there and you find this inhuman and illegal. Is that so? You clowns, do you think that there is a difference between what Israel does and carrying population from Turkey to Cyprus after 1974, settling it in the Greek Cypriot houses and building hotels, mosques and complexes of buildings adjacent to mosques on the land of the Greek Cypriots?"

Meanwhile, Afrika reports also that the Communist Labor Party organized yesterday a protest against the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. Members of the party marched towards the so-called embassy of Turkey in the occupied part of Nicosia. They shouted slogans in favor of a united Cyprus, the brotherhood of the peoples and against the USA, the EU and the guarantors powers in Cyprus.
