"Save" is a relative word.

Oh Gawd... !!! Someone put the above through Google Translate for us please (and put Sordo through a mincer.)

Speaking of translations, perhaps Maxi and "g"IG, if they're around, could translate this piece of Sener Levent's Manifesto for us please (and give us their views on it please)...

He is right Bill,

Refugees to their homes, no zones and a democratic unitary state.

This is not dissimilar to what a lot of people have been advocating for a long time. It is right but giving the settlers and the carpetbaggers or those who where born in Cyprus post 1974 Cypriot citizenship is not. This throws a spanner in the works. One child born in Cyprus can quickly turn into five people with 'rights' to stay because you cannot split up a family.

How is he going to achieve all this? Consider, he is completely the opposite of popular amongst the TC and the rest of "TRNC electorate".

More and more babies born , with rights. Don't assume just because the parents are illegal that the babies are too..

Of course they are illegal, you fool. The Cypriot law regarding citizenship is based on jus sanguinis.

Well, yes, ok, one of the criteria is a CY ancestry and that's not too different from the situation in other EU member-states which also require a connection through parentage, but as we've said already, Mr Levent's position is very similar to the leading parties in CY, the people in power who can ultimately modify the law.

... but can we get away from the Illegal Settlers, everyone has made their position clear on the subject and we keep coming back to it with nothing new added.

Below is a bit from a journalist, George Kaskanis, who will be voting for Sener Levent, an article which raises questions in me mind.

Why are some so insecure that they can't bring themselves to vote for one of the most out-spoken critics of the Occupation up there...??? Why are some so uncomfortable with voting for someone who will give a voice to those up there who oppose the Occupation and for that voice to be heard in the EP, when and let's be realistic, the chances of Sener Levant being elected are remote...???

From the above quote:

"the chances of Sener Levant being elected are remote."

Is this necessarily so? If large numbers of Turkish Cypriots exercise their right to vote (and that is a big if, I agree) and most of them decide to vote along ethnic lines, they could theoretically elect two Turkish Cypriot candidates to the European Parliament and, under that scenario, one of them is quite likely to be Şener Levent.

Well, let's hope so Pappou Tim. ... but it is soooo difficult for an independent, lacking the party apparatus to get the vote out on the day.

Now, a personal message from Mr Levent for Maxi (and for B25)... ooooh and a video. BillC does so spoil yous twos...

The issue really is whether Turkish Cypriots will vote in large numbers at all. The DISY candidate interviewed yesterday on CYBC's Biz/Emeis programme claimed that they will not, arguing that Turkish Cypriots have applied for RoC ID cards/passports for instrumental reasons, such as to travel and study, and this does not mean that they recognise the RoC. She said that most Turkish Cypriots will heed the calls by virtually all of their political parties not to vote. This, she argued, was why it was pointless for the mainstream parties to field Turkish Cypriot candidates.

..the rewards far outweigh the cost for Levent to be elected.
