what influence does a europarliamentarian have?...if he gets up in front of the europarliament and denounces Turkey to all of Europe then he is worth more then anything that Cypriot politicians and Greek/Cypriot lobbyist around the world have been able to accomplish in more then 40 years. On the subject of settlers staying, he contradicts himself when he states that all refugees have the right of return, and then says that some settlers can stay, its impossible for 150,000 settlers to stay when all refugees return.

Dear friend, I believe you are being misinformed about a couple of things. Sener is independent correct, he considers himself leftish but has come head to head with AKEL long before Christofias was even the General Secretary of AKEL. Until today he accusses AKEL and its attitude towards the people. About the settlers he says exactly the opposite of what you are saying. He want Turkey to be charged with the charge of colonization and have all settlers removed from the island apart from those who were born here. He is the only one speaking about the right of ALL refugees to return to their homes and the only one saying he wants a solution of ONE STATE.

The impact of electing Sener in the Euro Parliament will be huge as many of Turkeys arguments will collapse and what you are so very right on your point, if he gets up in front of the europarliament and denounces Turkey to all of Europe then he is worth more then anything that Cypriot politicians and Greek/Cypriot lobbyist around the world have been able to accomplish in more then 40 years.

A true picture can be found in his book, My homeland is occupied, a 2000 publication.

This is correct but everyone, including Europe are denouncing the occupation, he will just be another voice on this front but he has even less influence on his own. He also does contradict himself. This thread has exposed me to more of his views, some I agreed with from before and that has not changed but I completely reject others, such as giving all the settlers citizenship. This is new to me.

How can he give them citizenship and denounce the occupation while telling all the refuges they have the right to return. Basically, he is a radical leftie.

He will denounce the occupation in the EU parliament then argue that the settlers should get citizenship, even though he has a negative view on the "new Cypriots". So why does he want to push them on to us and the RoC? It just doesn't make sense.

I am still a bit puzzled about that, too. I think you can do both of the above or just one. So, you can either just vote for the party/platform, or a specific member. I hope I have worked out how it works by the day.

He will never do that because he will be representing the illegal Turkish mainlanders that he will see settled permanently and keep him in power forever more. Also, Turkey will have him instantly imprisoned for "Insulting Turkishness" (Article 301) and he will be dealt with like the thousands languishing in their prisons.

...how many times has he risked death (never mind imprisonment) by expressing his views. and if he provokes this reaction again, so be it. He is Cypriot, and in essence, Turkey's (or the regime's reaction) will make the difference abundantly clear. will he denounce Turkey? i ask, has he in the past? although he is no politician, one hopes that as a politician he will remain a man who reasons, and a man for people, rather than systems.

...and if the displaced return as communities, this is Justice, seen; not just those from '74, but those from '63. and if Cyprus, truly was Bicommunal (and Bizonal), (like Canada, for example), one Flag flies higher, even if there are many zones (that make-up Constituencies), Sovereignty remains within the hands of Cypriots and the Federal Government they elect to represent them as such, while as Persons they can sustain their distinct identities, if they so choose, within one of many Constituencies, an elector, and a resident, as a National Assembly, representation closer to their tax payments.

...settlers need homes, in any case, whether returned to where they came from, or, if they stay. presently it can only be said they are housed, that their plight in this context is no different to the displaced, victims in a Criminal act. they may not be respected, as accessories to the fact, and in the scale of things for some entirely true. it remains, an issue of Humanity, where if Turkey were better represented as a State, this would not have happened, and that the facts on the ground have not changed despite this effort, even though the harm has been compounded. i don't see a conflict in the issues, displaced returned/settlers staying as Cypriots, although the thinking involved in solving them is complex. we need resolve, anything is possible, but first the "we" we must be willing to stand-up for is Humanity, and as a "we" Cypriot, as in one Cyprus, (never mind internally if we call each other Greek, or Maronite, or Turkish, or Armenian, or Latin).

indeed, thanks.

but i'm still confused. i imagine that you will have only one "X" which you can use to vote for an individual (within a party or not), the rest is mathematics.
