TOURISM in Ayia Napa showed an increase of 10 per cent during the year 2005 compared to the year 2004, said Mayor Barbara Pericleous yesterday.
She added that the full results of the year passed are now being examined by the Municipal Council. Most of the tourism came from England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland and Israel.
The Ayia Napa Municipality tried their best to keep the town as clean and sanitary as possible so as to present higher standards and better services and the Municipality was well helped by the employment of workers during the holiday rush season which helped them keep the town and beaches clean longer without increasing their costs.
The Ayia Napa Municipality also hired 35 trained lifeguards to watch the beaches as safety was also an important issue during the season while the income from the Municipality owned beach beds came up to a total of £1 million and the beaches were in full operation without any problems.
