Time to deliver on rights, Rehn warns Turkey

Benefits and problems from the EU membership.

Pirates,
It is no use trying to argue sense with you. How can I when you argue that both sides attacked each other? The Turkish Cypriots simply tried to defend themselves. It was no fun for the Turkish Cypriots to live in enclaves from 1963 to 1974, was it? The Turkish Cypriots have been on the defensive all along.
When it suits you, you talk of Human Rights. Sure, human rights is very important but the no.1 human right is to stay alive. Turkey came to Cyprus in 1974 to secure that right and it was all legal. You almost admitted that yourself. The problem is afterwards. According to the London and Zurich Agreements, Turkey had the right to intervene in order to maintain law and order and to restore the constitution. In practical terms, you expected Turkey to hand over the power to majority Greek Cypriots to carry on with their unfinished work of exterminating Turkish Cypriots. You must be joking. London and Zurich Agreements proved unworkable only because the Greek Cypriot side was unwilling to share power with the Turkish Cypriots. Makarios himself said publicly that these agreements were only a stepping stone to Enosis. The only way forward is for the Greek Cypriots to accept power sharing with Turkish Cypriots. The Annan Plan or anything else is immaterial, one can always find excuses to reject this or that plan, the crunch of the matter is this: Are the Greek Cypriots ready to accept power sharing with Turkish Cyprots? To me the answer is very clear, you are not. In the circumstances there are only two alternatives left. 1) Complete surrender of Turkish Cypriots, simple one man one vote and hence the majority Greek Cypriot rule with minority rights to Turkish Cypriots and second class citezenship. Their economy to be undermined at every opportunity by the ruling side and eventually all Turkish Cypriots assimilated into the mainstream Greek Cypriot population, eventually all becoming Greek Cypriots in order to escape discrimination.
Just remember wghat happened befor 1974. Let me give you two examples that I know about.
a) Back in 1966 Kabbani family from Lebanon wanted to build a metal pipe factory in Cyprus. He was told to find himself a Cypriot partner. Being a moslem himself, he wanted to s4et up this factory in partnership with Ahmet Rashid, one of the richest man in Ktima-Paphos. I am a Paphian myself and know the family. The Makarios Administration indicated to him that he would never get the persimission unless he got himself a Greek Cypriot partner and he eventually did this. This is how Kabbani family set up his steel pipe factory in Famagusta, 80% owned by Kabbabi family and 20% by a Greek Cypriot.
b) Mr. Aziz, the owner of Lamboussa Hotel in Girne built his hotel in Kyrenia in 1973 or thereabouts. He had over a dozen restaurants in London at that time, yet the Greek Cypriot Administration tried to delay him as long as possible. He got permission to build the hotel after 3 years. Greek Cypriots could get such permission in 3 months. What is funny the permission was granted on condition that the operator of the hotel would be a Greek Cypriot. Do you see the discrimination and you have the guts to talk to me about Human Rights with an innocent look on your face. Shame on you.
The second and most likely alternative is that there will be a permanent partiton of the island. Thanks to Papadop and the majority Greek Cypriots, this is sure to happen. Its a shame but Turkish Cypriots have been left with no viable alternative. The choice is yours. I prefer a united Cyprus if ı am guaranteed that I will not be discriminated against as Turkish Cypriots were from 1963 to 1974. If course, to you Cyprus history begins with 20 July 1974. There is no history before that.

press - post reply, and you get to this nice box which you can fill with your own comments or quotes.
you find what u want to quote, and you copy paste it in your text.
you then choose that part - , and press the quote button.

i believe u can also press "quote" paste the document and then again "quote", but the above methos is better.

in order for your quotes to be legally accepted in the forum, and considering where you come from, you have to take a permission from a paphian moderator

It is no use trying to argue sense with you. How can I when you argue that both sides attacked each other? The Turkish Cypriots simply tried to defend themselves.

Here we go again. Why do you like to forget 99% of what happened in our history and selectively remember only what suits you?
Do you realize that in our common history on this island you have oppressed us and violated our human rights in the 99% of the time, yet you use the 1% of history that suits you in order to excuse even more crimes against us?

If course, to you Cyprus history begins with 20 July 1974. There is no history before that.

Look who is talking. You gave a recital of one sided selective history in your post.
Yes, there is a lot of history before 1974. We are talking about thousands of years that the whole Cyprus has been our homeland. There is history after 1974 as well.
Of course most of these years are irrelevant for you. So how about to start from the beginning of our interaction in Cyprus in 1571 and see the whole history until 2006?
Or maybe you want to start history at a point that suits you, and stop history at another point that suits you, emphasizing the 1% of GC crimes and forget the 99% of Turkish crimes?

Complete surrender of Turkish Cypriots, simple one man one vote and hence the majority Greek Cypriot rule with minority rights to Turkish Cypriots and second class citezenship. Their economy to be undermined at every opportunity by the ruling side and eventually all Turkish Cypriots assimilated into the mainstream Greek Cypriot population, eventually all becoming Greek Cypriots in order to escape discrimination.

One man one vote is called democracy and it is what exists in all democratic countries. All countries have minorities and their rights are protected. What we are asking is a democratic country like all the other EU countries. What happened in the past can not be used as an excuse for current and future crimes as you do today. In any case you should be the last ones talking about the past, since as I said you were the aggressors the 99% of the time. Can you finally stop being the aggressors by using lame excuses?

The second and most likely alternative is that there will be a permanent partiton of the island. Thanks to Papadop and the majority Greek Cypriots, this is sure to happen.

Keep dreaming. Barbarian acts of ethnic cleansing and illegal occupation will never be legalized.

Cypezokyly,
Thanks for the instructions and also for the good humour.

Piratis,
So now we are going back to 1571 and try to solve the Cyprus Problem!! As for the legality or the illegality of the land held by Turkish Cypriots in north Cyprus, I think I will have to address the question as a new topic because there is so much to say about it. From now on, the world will come round to realize who are thieves because the Turkish side will fight every court case and institute new ones against the Greek Cypriots. Let us see which side is whiter than white. You will be surprised.
Anyway, thanks Pirates for your patience, it has been a lovely discussion and we managed to keep it above a certain level. I have a feeling that, our commitments permitting, we will cross swords on many occasions. I feel that we have exhausted this topic. Let us choose another one :)

The Cyprus problem as it exists today starts in 1974 with the Turkish invasion. If you want to see how we came there and the chain of events, then YES we have to start from the beginning and not at a point that suits you.

You choose a point to start history and a point to end it. Everything before that period is too old, every after that period is excused, you crimes within that period (TMT, demands for partition etc) are forgotten, and all we are left with this is that 1% of history that GCs can be blamed in order to give excuse to you for even more crimes against us.

From now on, the world will come round to realize who are thieves because the Turkish side will fight every court case and institute new ones against the Greek Cypriots. Let us see which side is whiter than white. You will be surprised.

And since when legality and court decisions mean anything to you? You never cared to obey international law or the court rulings of ECHR. Why don't you obey the court rulings first? Or maybe it is again the same way as in history: The 99% of Court rulings that are against you mean nothing and you don't care to obey and the only thing that will matter to prove that GCs are the "bad guys" is if/when you will manage to win something in the court.
