Turk Cypriots start opening road dividing capital

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The turkish whim of building that bridge is no doubt stupid, but the greek repsonse to it is ridicolously disproportionate, and will further damage the GC standing internationally.

Greek Cypriot paranoia at its best, keep up the good work the world is watching

Coming from you VP, I find this statement a joke.

your the one who is constantly arguaing that unification would be a mistake because Turkish Cypriots (not that there are many left in Cyprus) would all be murdered at the first chance Greek Cypriots get.

...but when a legitimate problem occurs and the Turkish militray wants to encroach on more ground after it has commited the same violation twice in recent months, you accuse Greek Cypriots of being paranoid.

your ridiculous.

i dont really know about disproportional but i agree with you bg_turk.

and this is my view on a number of aspects concerning the cyprus problem (eg we dont meet if a certain flag is or is not there). i believe that they are both, -deliberately imo- trying to make every thema a matter of who is the good guy and who is the bad guy, or who started first or whatever when the purpose is crystal clear...open the stupid ledras.

Cyprus Mail wrote:UN: Ledra construction is “outside buffer zone”
By Constantine Markides

THE UN said yesterday that any Ledra crossing construction work undertaken by the Turkish Cypriot side was outside of the buffer zone. The statement, which stands in stark contrast to yesterday’s claims by the Cyprus government, provoked a strong response from the President, who accused the UN of changing its official stance.
The UN statement came at the same time that top government officials were publicly denouncing the Turkish Cypriot side for encroaching into the buffer zone and constructing a short overpass bridge there. (...)

its all excuses. there is always a way to agree if they wanted to. political immaturity. its childish if u listen to them. both sides could have found a way. and the argument of the tukish army progressing...come on, is that startegic advantage to move ten meters? it is ofcource stupid fron them if they did, but we are loosing the forest for a tree.

I agree with your sentiments,Komshu!
However the TC side could have been a bit more thoughtful in the whole affair. They could've explained why they are building the stupid footbridge, and how they see the scheme working. Both sides are playing oneupmanship, which might put the opening of this gate off.If I am not mistaken the wall at the Ledra gate was the first to be erected between the two communities in 1964,and hence it is of symbolic importance to tear it down.I hope they don't mess it up with their petty scruples.

Unfortunately Bir it appears that to Talat and /or the turkish army the synbolism to keep the street divided is stronger than the synbolism to bring it down...

You can be absolutely sure,Alexios, that the idea to build a foot- bridge over a road without any traffic could only come from a military mind
