A plan which is meeting opposition from the trades unionists up there.

"... NICOSIA – The Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union (KTÖS) has claimed that a foundation from Turkey, called Ada Bilim Eğitim, is planning to open a new theology elementary school in the northern part of Cyprus.

According to the news report in gazete360.com, KTÖS stated that it would never accept the presence of a religious school in any level of the education system. The union argued that this is a product of the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) plan to expand through religion and said: “This project, which will not meet any need of Turkish Cypriots, will only serve the interests of religion-mongers.”

KTÖS also added that AKP sees the island as a strategic base and is usurping the political willpower of the Turkish Cypriots through politicians and institutions that serve its own interests. ... "

I saw a van today, parked outside a madras/madni school thingybob mosque offshoot. It's a theology school in essence.

On the side was written:

I must reform my mind and then reform the world (or words to that effect)
As well as advertisement for an Islamic sky tv channel.
Funny places these 'theology schools'. Quite sinister actually.
