was this really a good idea?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

was this really a good idea?

This was apparently only up for a day....

But why, oh why, would a 2 metre high barrier be put in place when the public want 'no more barriers'?

I can't read the source btw. It came in my news feed from Occupy Ledra St on FB.

it depends which public you ask

The majority, north of the green line, would prefer a separate state. Alternatively, separation with political equality disguised as a pseudo unification along with a "30% share" in "the south".

The majority, south of the green line, want the occupation to end and the majority of the public (settlers) north of the green line to be repatriated. They want the unification of the whole island under a single identity, single citizenship and a single democratic government with proportionate TC representation. Also, for Turkey to respect Cyprus's sovereignty.

There is probably more but I think I have covered the general political disparity in Cyprus. So, it is not a surprise to me that those north of the green line want to erect physical barriers as well as the political ones to separate and segregate themselves.

Excellent summary of the situation Maxi... imho

... and yes it is very much bourn out by these new barriers.

As to the "trnc's" 6 foot gangelli that now makes up a potential barrier to Free Movement of European citizens, it goes with the "trnc" policy of erecting vehicle barriers at the road crossings in the barricades in other places that we saw in the late Autumn.

close the gates Lordo, and you silence the ordinary citizen from keeping things safe. close the gate and you invite the extremists to cross the line drawn.

...how would you like an ELAM boy for breakfast, he will be arm in arm with the little wolfy boys of the same mind, and unless you are one of "them", good luck.

too easy, blame the "Greeks", because Cypriots are (mostly) Greek.

thats not what i want rw thats what is going to happen. the military cannot wait to do it. especially now that most tcs are made unemployed in the south, there will be no fuss to speak of.

after waiting for 50 years for peace, i no longer believe the gc leadership wishes to share power. it is the end of the road i am afraid.

Well, lemony.eu gives us this info on the removal of the Illegal Ganjelee...

"... Iron gate at Ledra crossing removed

NICOSIA – The iron gate that was installed at the northern side of the Ledra Street crossing point and that caused reaction among the people, has been removed today.

“Prime minister” Özkan Yorgancıoğlu of the northern part of Cyprus had told Yenidüzen newspaper that the iron gate installed at the crossing point right after the passport control booths in the north would be removed. Yenidüzen reported today that the removal was a result of the efforts of the Yorgancıoğlu and “foreign minister" Özdil Nami. Yorgancıoğlu had previously stated that the Security Forces Commandership informed them that the iron gate had been installed for security reasons.

The iron gate at the Ledra Street crossing point had caused vast reaction and criticism in the social media. ..."
