Ozger Ozgour?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Ozger Ozgour?

Postby Sotos » Wed Nov 23, 2005 4:18 pm

I read some very good thinks about Ozger Ozgour, who died yesterday, in Haravgi. What do Turkish Cypriots think about him? Is he considered traitor by some Turkish Cyprios?

Sotos,
Ozker Ozgur was the past leader of the CTP before Talat and he was there for some 20 years. He was a true Cyprus patriot, uncompromising in his belief that Cyprus was the undivisible homeland of all Cypriots.
He was a politician of principle and honesty, something rare in politics the world over.He was briefly the Deputy PM of TRNC but resigned saying "I am not going to carry this drum,if the stick to beat it with is in someone else's hands".He was nobody's puppet, unlike some we know.

In his last interview only days before he died he said his biggest mistake in politics was to vote for the establishment of the TRNC.He described a meeting the night before they announced the establishment in which Denktash threatened to ban the CTP and throw them all out of parliament if they did not support the move.
In earlier times there were probably some TCs who considered him a traitor. But to most Tcs today he is/was a hero.May he rest in peace

Ozker Ozgur was awarded a medal by AKEL only a few months ago,for his services to Cyprus. This is part of his speech (his last public speech) of acceptance:

"Turkish Cypriots like Fazil Onder,Ayhan Hikmet,Muzaffer Gurkan,Dervish Ali Kavazoglu,Kutlu Adali and Greek Cypriots like Savas Manikos,Mihalis Mikrasiadis,Yannis Yuannu were murdered because they defended the brotherhood of the two communities and refused to bow to the divide and rule policy of imperialism.
They are the symbols of intercommunal peace and oneness(unity) of our homeland. You are here today to honour me.I want you to honour them first of all.To this end,I suggest that a common memorial be built to honour them when the line which divides Nicosia is no longer there. The division of our country continues. No honourable Cypriot can digest this division. The fight of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot patriots to reunite our homeland is going on.As this fight goes on,I want to stress my belief that it will be the Cypriots themselves who will find the best and lasting solution...
During my political life,I worked to bring our communities together,to improve solidarity, and to create a united homeland. I did not expect anything in return.Did I make mistakes? How could I not? But I learned from my mistakes. I continue to believe in the solidarity of the working classes, the unity of our country, the brotherhood of our communities,a federal solution based on political equality, and the human rights of every Cypriot...
Long live the brotherhood of our people..."

uncompromising in his belief that Cyprus was the undivisible homeland of all Cypriots.

oh, so he was an extremist?

Maybe a person like him (if they still exist) could be the first president of the new united democratic and independent Cyprus, and be the one to organize the first democratic elections.

I made no joke.

The jokes are made by those that label as extremists or nationalists anybody that dares to ask for democracy, human rights and a truly united Cyprus.
