That when we think of wine in a sort of Biblical sense, you know of the JC allegedly turning water in to wine kind, or in a historical sense like Cleopatra bathing in or drinking wine or whatever she did with it, or of the "wine of the gods", that we are thinking about a wine that's something similar to Commandaria and not some rubbish, wishy-washy Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest of the French-derived poor substitutes ...???

When the kingdom of Cyprus was a superpower mastering the Mediterranean waves and parlaying with the great pharaohs of Egypt and other Middle Eastern regional kingdoms like Assyria, Greeks and Turks had not been invented yet!

Cyprus is the granddaddy of European civilization.

Many years ago, you used to see grapes laid out on sheets on the ground to dry. Is this still done???

If your good Bill, Goblin Santa May leave a few bottles for you under the tree.

Hesiod mentioned a Cypriot crushed grape wine in 800 BC and archeologists have found evidence of Cypriot wine making as far back as 3500 BC but there is evidence in Greece possibly 500 years older, it was older still in Anatolia and Armenia, and the oldest winemaking traces are in what today is teetotal modern Iran.

...water in wine, as in travelling, those days long ago; adding a flavour which actually goes well with meat, as well as with fruits, and cheese, as an essence, and to purify water unknown, being thick, it was easy (worthwhile) to carry.

Cavemen probably ate rotting fruit for the alcohol.

Oooooh.... according to the Guinness Book of WRs ...

"... Cyprus is home to the oldest wine produced in the world. Commandaria is a dessert wine that tastes like a sweet liqueur, rich in flavor and history.

It supposedly got its name from the Crusaders knights of the 13th century, but it appears that it was discovered much earlier, around 2000 BC. ..."

I have always believed that wine is in my blood  Being a True Cypriot one can understand why I love wines so much
alas Koumandaria and Diabetes don't get on well so I stick to the dry variety.

Whilst in Cyprus over Christmas I was given a gift of a Lamitzana of village wine, for me village wine is by far the best in Cyprus,
virgin, potent and full of life, it does not keep longer than a year or two though since it does not contain the preservatives found in bottled wines but a unique and satisfying pleasure in drinking it.
