Famagusta - 50,000 Sig Petition Delivered to Downing St

A petition org'd by the Famagusta Association of GB and the "turkish" Cypriot Association for Democracy was delivered to the GB PM at Downing Street, London on the 9th December.

The two organisations have issued a joint press release which starts...

"... JOINT PRESS RELEASE Date: 09 Dec. 13
THE FAMAGUSTA ASSOCIATION OF GREAT BRITAIN AND THE TURKISH CYPRIOT ASSOCIATION FOR DEMOCRACY, London
Today a historic unprecedented event took place. Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots representing the above two Associations in Britain, in the presence of MPs from the main political parties, delivered to The Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street a Petition for the Return of Famagusta to its Rightful Inhabitants and the Opening of its Sea Port, in accordance with the UN Resolutions. Both parties share the same belief that the return of the town of Famagusta and the opening of its port would be the key to the solution of the Cyprus problem. ..."

... and also on Tuesday, there was a joint statement calling for the return of the city of Occupied Famagusta by Mayor Galanos and the Unofficial Muhktar Kayalp...

"... Famagusta Mayor Alexis Galanos and the Turkish Cypriot ‘mayor’ of the occupied town Oktay Kayalp have issued a joint statement expressing their strong support to the immediate commencement of the process of returning the fenced off area of Varosha to its lawful owners and inhabitants, under the supervision and control of the UN.

The statement was read out and signed by Galanos and Kayalp during joint press conference they gave on Tuesday for Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot media.

Famagusta port should be opened to international maritime traffic under the supervision of EU, and the Famagusta walled city should be place under UNESCO watch list for getting registered as one of World’s Heritage Sites, the statement said..."
