Stranger and stranger...

The Barbaros has made its way back to Turkey and is currently wallowing around just off the Turkish coast near Selifke.

The guard ship Bravo Supporter hasn't been seen since yesterday morning.

... and the second guard ship Deep Supporter has retreated to an anchorage just 1 nm off the Karpas coast at Occupied Bogasi.

The jerk-up rig GSP Jupiter still anchored near a port in Turkey, not moving for days.

It's all very ...

( only a matter of time before the Jupiter moves to off-shore Fam Bay, naturally within sight of the shore . )

Sadly one can expect bold moves from Erdogan soon, what with elections coming, what with the deadlines he's placed on himself with "ideas of the Century", bridges, pipelines (water, gaz), Islamification, and nuclear fission. what is next is war; always an event that sobers the masses to rally.

Watching Turkey's seismic research vessel south-east of Cyprus move about makes me think, what are they doing there? and given his past performance, i'd say it is not so simple. Expect a Naval Base to be built, or at least 'started', soon.

Ooooh... the Barbaros has just made the short return trip from Turkey.

Currently, just off Apostolos Andreas.

The Barbaros is on its own.

Now, would the fascist jokers Bordo and his bed-fellow Toffoui be so good as to stay out of this thread please. ... take your useless contributions elsewhere.

Well, in m (inexpert) opinion...

Yes, you've got half the truth, to get some people hot and bothered but there's also the other half of the story, which is to give the impression to others that Turkey has the technical ability to not only survey, but also to drill off-shore.

So it's a story in two parts.

We know the drill-rig Jupiter was paraded past Kyrenia last week, we know that it is anchored near a Turkish port and we also know that it costs TPAO some 45,000 USD a day to hire it... at that cost it'll sooner rather than later have to move it in to position, prob somewhere in the shallows of Famagusta Bay, within sight of the land with flags a-flying, loadsa bunting, bands a-playing and pompous speeches.

(By the way, if you want to seriously drill in the Med, you hire rigs like the Homer Ferrington or the ENSCO5006... available at day rates of near 500,000 USD)

I think it's more than that. It's precisely for the same reasons that they patrol the Aegean. They undermine us and our sovereignty. They give the world the impression they have rights over us and our lands and seas, from the Aegean right down to Cyprus and beyond.

Interesting summary analysis from Daniel Pipes:
