Elomas Central - another one bites the dust?

Just a word to the wise to hopefully save you from the wasted journey I had yesterday ..... sadly it seems that the Elomas Central supermarket close to Larnaca airport has closed down :(

Yet another victim of the recession?

This was reported in the Press in the past few days: yes they have followed Orphanides into administration. We occasionally used the one you mentioned as it was geographically convenient when doing some once regular trips. The breakfasts were good: better value in my view than the Ikea breakfast.

While Britain was once described as "a Nation of Shopkeepers" ( probably initially by Adam Smith, before Napoleon used the phrase) it appears to me that this title must now belong to Cyprus if you look at how many retailers there are (and the number of retail properties).

I would not be very surprised to see other supermarkets go to the wall, since I suspect there are too many supermarkets chasing too few customers who in turn have less money to spend: I suspect this may be true for many other types of shop, in particular in but not limited to Periptero and those in the fashion trade. Quite how many shops survive is beyond me, unless they are a part of the "NPL" saga.
