That's actually a very honourable way by which to live one's life - it scholars on prioritising. I vaguely remember my dad using it or variations thereof - and he was the gentlest man I have ever met, and a great admirer of nature. My dad always had cats, dogs doves ... even a pig... as pets which were well fed and doted upon - they were fed and looked after and no song or dance was made of it or the buying of 'special' food etc. I think some people think they are better pet keepers because of the brands of food they buy.
It's a very interesting maxim on which to reflect (you, my dearest, should do a little more of that) - so, why don't you start a thread to dissect the moral standing behind such Cypriot sayings and sentiments. And perhaps people can throw in more wise sayings into the thread (such as the other lovely one used by The Subaltern above regarding shelling koutsia. ) We can dissect such Cypriotisms and preserve or discard as dated.
Here is one for Milti.
'O KOSMOS KEGETE, KAI TO MOUNI XTENIZETE'

You said: "I do not know about colonial mentality but I do know Peasantry Mentality" You have just proven my diagnosis! You definitely suffer from the condition of colonial mentality!!! Can you feel it at all?
GreekIslandGirl wrote:The RoC has been doing a brilliant job criminalizing this practice and has even made the 'Sovereign British Bases' check those areas that the RoC itself cannot monitor (because our colonial masters say they belong to them! Well, of course the Royals say the territory belongs to them, her majesty, but of course any illegal activities carried out on that 'sovereign' territory are all the fault of the RoC and its citizens - by some twisted British logic ).

This autumn’s mist netting levels were 54% higher than in 2002 (index value of 100) and is one of the highest levels ever recorded since the start of the surveillance programme.
Illegal bird trapping is taking place at an industrial scale nowadays, as confirmed both by our survey area monitoring and from enforcement data (hundreds of mist nets and thousands of limesticks were confiscated). And yet the political will to tackle this ecologically damaging problem at its root has been at the lowest levels of the last few years, with even some Ministers expressing a sympathetic attitude towards the so called ‘traditional hunting’ and some politicians stating openly on TV that they eat ambelopoulia even though they are aware that it is illegal.
