It proves that Anastasiades was right to insist on a joint statement. It's forced Eroglu to show his hand early and lead the entire process to deadlock. So much for Turkey's strategy of solving the issue by next Spring. They're now abandoning talks of a federal solution and pinning everything on eventual recognition of the 'trnc'. The same failed policy they've tried for the last thirty years...

Yes, the same failed strategy is being employed and Anastasiades is right to force their hand early.

What I find most grotesque about this whole attempt to "re-unify" is how they are tying to isolate Cyprus (from the UN, from the EU or any other ally or organization) to bully and blackmail her into accepting Turkish illegalities and decades of wrong doing.

These people are despicable Islamist terrorists, nothing more, and they should finally be dealt with as such.

That's two failed Turkish strategies then. Neither 'upgrading' the status of the occupied areas or trying to isolate the Cyprus Republic has achieved anything in the last thirty years. Exactly the opposite. Can't see anything changing either. It's not as if it's the Republic of Cyprus which is being viewed as an obstacle to peace on the island.

EU Commission supports the need for a joint statement before negotiations can begin:

Check mate me thinks. The Turks have truly shot themselves in the foot. Thank you Erdo and supergluey for that.

Well yes, but as ever, ask what is the politician Barosso saying and what is he not saying.

He's saying he supports a joint statement, which is very nice but he isn't saying he wants this phrase in the statement...

"single sovereignty, single citizenship and single international personality"

There is nowhere to go from here, one proposition is not acceptable to the other and vice versa.

I say forget about "re-unification", it was never meant to be in the first place, just look at ways of ending Turkeys occupation so the rest of the island can be reunited with the Republic of Cyprus..

absolutely boys, forget about unification because it will never happen, but watch terkey move over 2 million settlers in to the north and then insist on unitary state.

you will do much better protecting what you have rather then worry about getting the tc lands back.

You really are a silly and unbelievable fool Floppo.

You moan about being Swamped by the Illegal Settlers and now you're threatening to ship in more of the buggers.

... but don't mind us, you just carry on swamping and threatening yourself with the Illegals.
