I don't know any Cypriots who have sold off land for many years. I have never sold anything. Selling stopped long ago among the people I know. A few developers bought-up some years ago and they are the ones who have built the "enclaves". A lot of land was RoC land too. The big chunks that used to be developed with hundreds of little villas for Brits nowadays remain as big chunks which are bought by Russians for the odd one giant villa or Spa. That's preferable, surely?

If the Cypriots were not selling off their lands, then why is it that huge parcels are now in foreign ownership.

Face it! During the boom, many Cypriots (Paphian Peasants especially) couldn't wait to sell at huge prices so that they can buy a nice Benz!

When you actually reside in Cyprus you will see the buildings popping up .........I will wager these developments are not dowry houses or for the extended family.......

I used to live in Neo Choria ......when I last went back it was built up .....who sold that land ....read a few sheila Hawkins books or see some of Harry's paintings......

BTW - Lots of Cypriots still live in Neo Chorio. Many more have built villas that they rent out to Brits. Not all Brits own the villas they stay in. Hawkins bought a tiny frahti that a few goats grazed in.

I really like Neo Chorio. A lot of very happy memories there. The house I use to stay in has gone as well.

But it has changed a lot, and I'm not so sure I like the changes.

Argaka is still lovely.

Yes, NeoChorio is well developed now (as are most places in Cyprus) but as you have alluded, a lot of the developments are still owned by Cypriots (apc and paph haven't a clue) and rented out to Brits etc.

Yes, NeoChorio is well developed now (as are most places in Cyprus) but as you have alluded, a lot of the developments are still owned by Cypriots (apc and paph haven't a clue) and rented out to Brits etc.

As I am a permanent resident here and can name most landowners in the Polis/Latchi area I think I can pass comment .As well as living there and working there (not living off Dad's money/land) .....Why is there a block of flats in Neo Choria that is pure greed ...build something in keeping with the area not a block of fucking flats .........

People build according to their needs and means. It's capitalism. You're just sore for some personal deficiencies and accusing me of living off my land shows how much you know ... I haven't made a penny off my land as it's being used by a poorer person in the village for nothing. Idiot!
