This is not what Bagis is saying at all Viewpoint. He is saying that not an inch of land of 'their country' will be returned when in fact, 100% of it must be returned.

TC land to be returned to GCs 100%? Shall we send the TCs to Lebanon or Syria? Which 100% are you talking about?

The 100% that the TC's will get too.........

Because the GCs want Maraş back as a precondition to the talks and Turkey is standing firm by the TRNC that without a comprehensive solution you will get nothing.

You keep going on about a place called 'Maras', but I have looked it up in the UN list of place names and nothing like this exists. WTF you talking about?

There's an opinion piece reprinted at lemony.eu from an original in yeniduzen by the CY Niyazi Kızılyürek on the manoeuveurs by "trnc"/Turkey ahead of any resumption of the talks... (...and let's face it, these are designed to collapse any prospect of talks)

It's a lengthy piece that's well worth a read. Here are a few snippets...

"...Let me make a reminder first. The “important progress made in negotiations” to date, consist of topics, which the Turkish side mostly “took.” Such as Governance, Power-sharing, EU and Economy… In topics such as Territory, Property, Security and Guarantees, which the Turkish side has to “give,” there has been either no progress at all or no important progress. Moreover, the Turkish side has hardened its stance on these issues over the past years. ..."

"...What they ("trnc") are actually trying to say is, “We either solve the Cyprus problem in two months or the world has to leave aside the quest for a federal solution and move towards a two-state solution.” Last March, Davutoğlu had said, “we are ready to negotiate a two-state solution.” What a two-state solution would mean for Turkish Cypriots could be the subject of another article. Let me just say that this, under the current conditions, would mean becoming Turkey’s Gibraltar in Cyprus at the best. ..."

"...It is impossible to legitimize the TRNC, which was established on a territory, 80 per cent of which belongs to Greek Cypriots, who have been forced out at gunpoint. It should be known that the Cyprus Problem is not merely a problem of “Turkish Cypriots’ integration into the world.” At the same time, it is a problem of restoring the violated rights of Greek Cypriots. For this reason, what is expected of the Turkish side is not to try and corner the Greek Cypriot side in a semi-theatful manner, but to act with a sense of responsibility and put forward strong will in terms of a federal solution...."

LemonCY also reports that teachers don't like what's going on and anti "umbilical cord" grafitti is appearing in Nicosia.

Kizilyuerk puts it clearly, they are not willing to give, just take. Which we knew all along. Let them hold on tight, till all TCs are gone and then we will not be lying to each other or to ourselves as to who and what we are dealing with: neocolonial neo-ottomanism clothed in extreme cynicism. Forget settlements and talks, nothing will come from them.

Even if we were to accept and legitimise the status quo by recognising the pseudo state, with all the territory it now occupies, they would find some new excuse to demand more.

...it seems that all these politicians are forgetting that there are elections every four years, and it is clear that the last three years have been rife with a pitiful display of incompetent acts, only to satisfy an internal population of their own. the north can take solace in the disaster that the south has put itself into, they may even try to take advantage of the weakness they perceive with ridicule, but nothing will hide to the electorate the corruption which must be ended, and the fact that their till is empty too. Turkey, in effect does not have a say, and Cypriots, Turkish or Greek, do. Erdogan has failed to buy himself the "Turks" in Cyprus either, it would not surprise me that the settlers (those that are left, since fortunes turned) are none too happy either.
