Turkish commentators ignore Cyprus Problem

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkish commentators ignore Cyprus Problem

Postby Jerry » Sat Oct 19, 2013 11:12 am

Four articles about the recent EU report on Turkey's accession discuss the reasons for the lack of progress but none mention Cyprus. Do these people ignore the issue because they believe the problem has been solved or are they reflecting the view of the ordinary Turkish citizen that Cyprus and the "trnc" is of little interest or importance to them?

To mention Cyprus would be to acknowledge the main reason why Turkey’s accession to the EU has crashed and burned.

Rather than blame themselves for the stalling of Turkey’s EU accession path, they would rather blame the EU for an anti-Turk bias, cultural differences, or Western 'racism’.

In reality it is Turkish arrogance, belligerence and anti-democratic behaviour, as exemplified by the occupation of Cyprus, that has resulted in the whole process grinding to a halt.

Cyprus has always been the litmus test by which Turkey’s EU accession was going to be assessed. They just can’t admit that whatever they do, their EU path will always flounder on the issue of Cyprus.

jeruimmu may be the fact that it has nothing to do with the cyprus problem may well be the reason. it is becasue terkey has not opened the ports and air space. there is nothing that she has to do regarding cyprus to enter eu.

in any case the negotiations will take at least a decade.

...there is the irony, simply agree, Cyprus exists, and a page is turned.
