Personally, I feel at home in any and every village - all have the warmth and familiarity of a soft hug, a welcome kiss on the cheek and a pretty church. I get panic attacks in the cities - even Polis is getting too big for my comfort levels.

Don't know what to make of those few abandoned villages we are safeguarding for the return of the Turks. Hate to see mosques which ooze with invasion and destruction jutting up into our otherwise loving landscape. The RoC have been wonderful at preserving them.

Very nice!

I generally love the villages south-west of Trodos (I can't say Ayyanni :D ), such as Aynikola, Salamiou, and Vreçça.

Are these inhabited or abandoned?

I am not familiar with them so would appreciate more detail and maybe some photos if you have any.

Personally, I prefer the Paphos and Limassol approaches. There are many great villages on the way. Which villages do you have in mind?

Miltiades, great choice! Platres is great. One of my favourites for sure. Also Kakopetria and Galata.

Oh gosh, you are right of course! When we went to Kykkos, we went on a right old mystery tour up there from Paphos. I'm not surprised theres a Helipad up there either
I think we went through Platres, possibly Omodos on the way back down towards Limassol.
I shall say one thing, there, somewhere in the Troodos there is a great big white cross, built on a plateau. You see it come closer, then it disappears from sight, then its far away....and the road twists and turns. Chasing that cross has to be one of the most fun and beautiful views I have seen ... ever. I can't remember what it is called, maybe you can tell me? :D
I have never seen a road with centre lines that go round a tree! Nor have I ever nearly broke a hire car on fallen rocks in the road, whilst dreaming of smooth motorcycle tarmac.

The other halfs mother used to love Lefkara. His aunt on her side of the family has a house in Mathikoloni. We are to go up there on our next trip, he tells me I will like the view. :?

I have an English friend who lives in Belapais. The photos she puts up on Facebook are so beautiful. I can't wait to get up there on our next trip. The list of places to visit just gets bigger and bigger. So much so, I think we should stay!! :D :D

Omodhos is another great village FH.

Yes. I feel a quiet and quaint village and an old church has a feeling almost of 'where time forgot'. It's a very warm feeling indeed.
Funnily enough, I feel the same in big places. I really don't feel comfortable in Limassol for some reason!

Here’s an old map of Cyprus from 1661 where you can clearly see “Paphos”, “Lapithus”, “Salamis”, “Idalium”, “Curium”, “Amathus”, “Olympus” mountains, even the river that cuts through Nicosia is called ”Podius” (today Pidias) so I really think we should RESPECT the actual names of places instead of manufacturing new ones.

Hear, hear. Much as I tend to try and be diplomatic, this is something that really irritates me. The correct names have been used for hundreds, if not thousands of years. They should not be called by some name concocted in 1977. I'm referring to such names as Morphou in this instance.

Well as English is the official CF Language, we really should stick to English place-names.

Kakopetria. Lovely place. Try the Mill hotel (http://www.cymillhotel.com/). They do an amazing pate filled steak there. Ok it's expensive (€26 last time I was there I believe), but jaw droppingly good. Plus the hotel itself is something else.

Cheers

It's more expensive in Edinburgh. For that amount of money you can only buy pizza.

...Kitti, for the choir, the children's singing is something very special, and in a church that angels built.

@ayyannili, thanks for the map.
