As well as not knowing the diff between his bum and his elbow, Lordo doesn't know the difference between a Derogation and an Abrogation.

Sorry, Lordo. But the only permanent derogation the EU has ever allowed is for Malta and relates to foreigners buying second homes. There are no restrictions on free movement among Maltese citizens. How do you propose to use Malta as a model for Cyprus?

And what on earth makes you think the Republic of Cyprus is going to ‘agree' to restrictions on its own citizens?

Have you finally gone mad?

sunshine once the agreement is reached it is kaput. you people can take the roc to court if you like. but look at the negative side. if you dont in the next 5 years we will have more than a million tcs and of course we will insist on unitary sate. so eventually you will have what you want.

i can feel a song coming on.

I think many Greek Cypriots would welcome permanent derogations if and when Turkey joins the EU. As mentioned they have been granted in a few exceptional cases, I'm sure the EU would oblige if it helped solve the Cyprus Problem.

In the event of a settlement would we welcome a large influx of TCs to the Greek Cypriot southern component State leaving an overwhelming majority of mainlanders in the north. In such an event who would want to go back north anyway? Permanent derogations may have to be an essential feature of a solution.

Derogation's will be necessary for the transition period to build understanding and confidence.
