The Republic has denied these reports.

Indeed they are making it clear that the talks won't restart until a clear road map and end destination are agreed through a joint declaration.

This is where we are right now. No joint agreement on the basis for a solution, then no talks. This is presumably to avoid the TCs wasting everyone's time with proposals that lie outside a federal solution or outside the UN resolutions and the EU acquis...

Cyprus leaders will meet only if the joint announcement is agreed on, Government says

If the joint statement that will follow the meeting of the two leaders in Cyprus is not agreed, then the meeting will not take place, the Cyprus government announced this evening.

Acting Government Spokesman Victoras Papadopoulos, invited to confirm reports from the Turkish Cypriot side that the two leaders will meet on 4th November, replied that “the fact the UN has denied this that says it all”.

He explained that either the Turkish Foreign Minister or the Turkish Cypriot side made the statement, noting there is confusion as to who made it and now “they are now trying to put the pressure on our side”.

Papadopoulos said the government does not want to play this kind of games adding, “We mean what we say. We want to engage in a dialogue to solve the Cyprus issue and such a meeting to have prospects”.

For this reason, he added, there will not be a meeting between the President of the Republic and Dervis Eroglu if a joint statement that will be issued after the meeting is not agreed on.

He further said that the joint statement will “define the road map and procedure of talks”.

Papadopoulos also said that there is a difference of views on the content of the joint statement of the two leaders, which will define the basis of a solution and the procedure that will follow, as well as everything necessary for the dialogue to have a successful outcome.

He added that President Anastasiades has repeatedly explained this.

No more time wasting, Lordo. Enough of talking for nothing. You either sign up to a roadmap with a realistic chance of success, or you can go hang. Simple really.

It's already over Lordo before it even starts because it's based on all things illegal and unacceptable as per usual... by xmas it's back to the UN resolutions.

I get the impression your leaders are telling you prokies, they were give the road map last week when all the leaders were in the USA plus everyone including the UN are all geared up and ready to go yet the GCs yet again are dragging their feet with their standard delaying rehtoric of road maps and no timetables when the 2 sides have been talking for years converging on many subjects thats why March is looked upon as a favorable date for a referendum....I get the feeling that the side that is seen to be stalling will pay a very heavy price this time around...the world is sick of the small minded politics of this island.

In all honesty, I don't think the RoC is in a position financially to be even considering these talks. It has no money to integrate the gypsies (aka TCs) nor to spend on anything else. Once the RoC gets on stable ground then we can discuss. Doing it now is futile and prone to fail. It's time the RoC looked to support its own before the crooks of the north.

VP, it doesn't matter what the so called 'roadmap' contains, the people will speak and if it isn't to our liking, you can all, including our politicians, go F yourselves. I personally can garner up support of a few hundred to vote against a sell out plan, I'm sure many others here can do the same.

Just carry on your wet dreaming and leave the Cyprob to those that know what they are doing.
