Some pretty hard-hitting criticism and not just confined to this mosque and religious centre from the Teachers Unions, reported at lemony.eu ...
"...The Turkish Cypriot Teachers Union (KTÖS) and the Turkish Cypriot Secondary School Teachers Union (KTOEÖS) published a joint statement on Thursday and criticised the opening of the Theology School.
The unions reminded that the parties in “government” had objected to the Theology School when they were in opposition.
According to the Gazeddakibris.com web site, following is the text of the joint statement:
The state of the Republic of Turkey, which made a military intervention to “establish the constitutional order” within the framework of the “Guarantee and Alliance Agreements,” which formed the Republic of Cyprus, not only did not fulfil this duty, but presented the northern part of Cyprus to the pillage and exploitation of the wild capitalism.
The “governance games” played in the separatist political entity established in the northern part of Cyprus, have not been successful in concealing the fact that the real power lies with Ankara.
Cyprus’ dependence on Turkey, not only in the military and economic sense but also in social, cultural and educational sense, has become even clearer with the policies of the Turkish governments and especially the policies of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government.
Within the framework of its policy to either force the “Turkish Cypriot youth out of the island” or to “assimilate” them, the AKP government is doing everything to create a bigoted and superstitious society that obeys and feels grateful, and to do away with the modern, democratic, secular structure of the Turkish Cypriot society.
The Turkish Cypriots, who were first made a minority through the assimilation policies, are now struggling to “protect their identity” in an environment swarmed by zealots.
The northern part of our country is being turned into Saudi Arabia with Quran courses, religious schools and mosques, which do not fit in the structure of our society. ..."
