We are faced with ever-changing and ephemeral problems and we cannot close our ears to options. It's the reason parties like UKIP, BNP, EDL, NF etc need to exist and be listened to - even if we choose not to vote for them.

Now let's not get all ridiculous about this by comparing GD to legitimate political parties that have not been accused of widespread criminal activity, extreme right wing/fascist politics, inciting hate, targetting the weak and vulnerable etc...

The Greek Authorities have quite substantial evidence against various members and MPs of GD, ranging from very serious murder plots, firearm violations, money laundering, blackmail, bribery, and some 30 or so other offences such as mobilising vigilante mobs against migrants, whether legal or illegal.

They, or its members, silenced a Greek Rapper permanently. Things were clearly getting out of hand and Greece was getting a lot of criticism. But these Ku Klux Klan mobsters are not what Greece is all about. Please watch Mississippi Burning!

GD were bringing Greece down and it is not about hearing all the various voices. There could be a Gay and Lesbian Party for all I care and they do have a right to form a political party if they so wish. Why not? There could be an Atheist Party, a United Gun Owners Party, a Greek Olive Growers Party etc etc! All welcome to form a Party in a democratic country like Greece. Even a Greek Nationalist Party that could even have an anti immigration platform. It's not really an issue as long as they do not do what GD did. GD however would have no issue with silencing any legitimate Leftist political movement or any party with a Gay and Lesbian platform.

There could even be a fascist party, as long as they do not ruin peoples lives or physically harm anyone.

GD however are way beyond anything I mentioned and evidence exists which has allowed Greece to declare their "party" a criminal organization and to arrest 35 GD MPs and "party" officials.

The rejoicing is over the cog wheels of justice turning full circle and putting all the accused on trial over some extremely serious charges. They will need to defend tgemselves and they will have good lawyers.

But the Greek Authirities would not have moved without the evidence needed to issue their arrest warrants or without a good chance of getting credible convictions. In the end, they will be judged by their Greek peers, and if found guilty, they will go to jail.

GD will be outlawed because it is not a party but a very seedy and creepy KKK style vigilante group.

Justice will be done, and Greek society can begin the process of returning back to normality without this criminal gamg.

so how about a bit of common sense from you?

And why would you of all people rubbish the actions of the GR Government, police and judicial process?

The Americans who put Golden Dawners in jail. If you watch the video of Golden Dawn leader Nikolaos Mihaloliakos being perp-walked back into custody yesterday – watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC7L_Lr1LsQ and listen carefully to the voices of his Blackrock guards – you will hear heavily American-accented words like, “Left now” and “OK, let’s go!”

The Greek political “élite” has been protected by the Blackrock mercenary agency for some time now. So many police officers are GD sympathisers, the general feeling among ND and PASOK is that they need bodyguards with ideas of saving their lives, not killing them at the first available opportunity. And of course, in this particular case there’s no way Athenian regular cops would’ve acquiesced in Niko coming to trial. Hence the American accents being emitted by private sector mercenaries….a chilling trailer of films to come, I rather fancy.

But this looks increasingly like a put-up job to knock Golden Dawn out of the Athens Mayoral race (I can confirm their candidate Elias Kasidiaris is now under arrest) while handing Antoniki a solid ND majority in new elections…now that the Right vote is not so split. Greeks on the liberal-left, however, are wondering what exactly the role of Brussels and Washington might have been in this little ruse. Most of the Greek media and professional Establishment being Government lapdogs, Samaras’s shaky coalition has been applauded for its tough stance: no questions have been asked, and opinion polls show a circa 50% drop in support for Golden Dawn…plus a slight boost for his conservative New Democracy party.

As for the much-feted opposition leader Alexis Tsipras, he somewhat inscrutably said last week, in referencing the GD arrests, that the New Democracy Coalition should be confronted “within the law, not outside it”. Seems to me the Coalition is being every bit as lawless as Golden Dawn, but only events to come will clear that one up. Or not, as the case may be.

And who wouldn't have their life saving out of the Banks, I have. And as far as heavy weapons found elsewhere, your not going to fall for that old trick are you. And of course the propagandists in this aren't going to miss this opportunity to put fake poll results out, really 50% drop , the people answering the poll questions have all suddenly forgotten the underlying reasons they support Golden Dawn, I don't think so.

I feel for you losing money but that is no reason to beat up on Greece and Cyprus. There are 27% unemployed in Greece and 16% in Cyprus.

Now, if the Greek Authorities had to resort to American Mercenaries to protect the lives of their Police and Agents, it just goes to prove that there are very serious concerns for reprisal attacks against the State, and its Police. It just proves that GD are extremely dangerous and the lives of GR Police Officers would be at risk from a possible terrorist attack!

First I am not 'beating up' Greek or Cypriot people, just the criminals at the top.

No, it proves that the Greek leadership have either committed TREASON or they have been usurped. Are you saying the Greek Law enforcement are unable to do their job. or are saying that the Greek Leadership can no longer trust the very people they are SUPPOSED to represent, because that would be a vote of no confidence. I can tell you an absolute truth, using FOREIGN mercenaries is NOT about protecting the Greek police and 'agents'.

Maybe they should have sent in specially trained SWAT like in the American movies!

or maybe they should have told the criminals in the IMF and ECB to go F*CK THEMSELVES, because all that this is doing is getting nation states into massive debts they will never be able to repay, so that they can then be raped of their natural resources.
I am sorry Paphitis but what you wrote was so far from the truth it is astoundingly naive and that is the most charitable I can be about it.

Sven,

I don't think you have a clue of what you're talking about!

I was always one of the most vocal forumers opposing the Greek capitulation to Troika and even advocated for a Grexit just so that Greece could at least maintain some dignity. That was my main aim.

There is also quite a substantial political party that enjoys widespread support that expresses similar views to me and that happens to be Socialist Syriza! And they have not harmed anyone and therefore are a very legitimate party!

What I see in GD is exactly what the authorities see. A criminal gang! And now, they will be herded in front of a Judge with their defence attorneys and eventually, Greeks will decide whether the charges will stick.

No issue from me, and the vast majority of Greeks will have no issue either. Justice is sweet...

If the VAST majority of Greeks have no issue, there would be no need for FOREIGN MERCENARIES

So do you still maintain that using FOREIGN MERCENARIES is to protect the Greek police?. Do you consider the GREEK POLICE to be unable to do their job?.

Mate,

I was bloody having you on. I do not believe that Greece used American mercenaries!

Even a former Greek PM had an American accent. It us not uncommon in Greece.

But if they did, I can understand why they would do so. My main concern would be the safety of the Greek Police Officers. They did wear balaklavas so none could be identified because the risk they or their families would face can't be under estimated in my opinion. GD it appears are quite well organized and capable of anything and even murder.

The Americans or anyone else could not give a rats arse about GD other than it being the 37th news story in their evening news.

So now we have Greek Special forces speaking English in an American accent to another Greek, really, you can see the absurdity of that can't you ?

What's not clever is you coming up with ludicrous conspiracy theories and even involving the US in this! Why would they care?

If anything Syriza would be their concern but that is not even the case.

Such a notion is deserving of some ridicule but don't taje offence because none was intended.

Even if mercenaries were employed (safety issues would be the only plausible reason), they were still employed by the Greek Government and therefore had a contract to fulfill. End result is still the same.

No I really can't! I can see the absurdity to tactical response group police saying left, right, left as if they seem confused berween their left and right!

Just about every second person has an American accent in Greece!

if you listen to Lyssarides, the only one who called for a guerrilla war against the Turk invader, and kept pressing the idea throughout his leadership of EDEK...nevertheless EDEK has always been a minority party

Even if there is a Cyprus Nationalist movement, you assume that Turkey wont find a reason to want to intervene. They have said in the past even if Tc didnt exist they would have influence in Cyprus regardless..Or instead of having an issue of race Turk/Greek...it could have religious Christian/Muslim...or Rich/Poor...and on and on....
