Also in a future EU federation ruling will be ideological based as it is in all federations in the world the conservatives of Greece and Germany and Italy etc etc have the most seats they elect a Austrian conservative who is best suited for the presidency. It will not be ethnic based as the vaunted BBF in cyprus.

President Anastadiades met with the US Vice-president Joe Biden today.

They do seem very happy to have met.

(In the meantime Eroglu of "trnc" met with various officials from... oh... oh dear... they were from Turkey again.)

I think it's the TCs who will get the electric shock. Direct talks with Turkey mean only one thing - Turkey is about to dump on the TCs big time. Don't be surprised if Turkey offers to return a large slice of the occupied territory in return for a legitimate presencein the north. Outnumbered by settlers and carpetbaggers where will the displaced TCs go - they certainly won't be welcome in the newly constituted southern state. Turkey does not care about you Lordo, it just wants a piece of Cyprus.

Its encouraging that he appears to want to take into consideration the TCs concerns and fears...we will see how genuine he is during the rounds of negotiations to start next month.

Seems to have been quite a substantial meeting. Here is a summary of what was discussed with Biden...

Developments in Cyprus, Cyprus role in the region and energy issues discussed today at the White House, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

The talks, which lasted about an hour, from the U.S. side acknowledged the need to create a new dynamic in Cyprus while Washington called Cyprus stability point and expressed the belief that it can form the basis of regional cooperation.

Recognized the sovereign right of Cyprus to exploit its natural resources within its exclusive economic zone.

Finally Mr Biden told President Anastasiadis to communicate directly with him on what topic he wishes. And this is a desire of President Obama.

The White House also issued a notice to the talks.

The President in a statement welcomed the meeting and expressed his expectation and hope that there will be upgrade of American engagement.

The President Anastasiadis came and participated in the talks, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, the Government Spokesman Christos Stilianidis, Ambassador of Cyprus to the George Washington Siakkali and the Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Nikos Christodoulides.

From the American side were Deputy Secretary William Burns, National Security Advisor of Vice, Mr. Sullivan and officials of the National Security Council.
