Turkey Set To Buy Chinese Air Defence ...???

Postby bill cobbett » Thu Sep 26, 2013 9:47 pm

According to a report in today's Hurriyet, Turkey is preparing to buy a Chinese-supplied Air Defence Missile System.

A move which is causing concern amongst Turkey's NATO allies.

Amongst the questions being asked is how would such a system integrate with NATO's air defences...???

Let’s not confuse your $20 hair dryer with export quality weapon systems. :)

Apparently the Turks claim that they’ve run tests as part of the tender, which included the American Patriot, Russian S-300, some French and Italian systems, and the Chinese HQ-9.

The HQ-9 is said to have hit all targets while the Patriot and S-300 missed some.

According to this report by Reuters, the Chinese firm that is supplying the missile system is under sanctions from the USA...

This is good news for us, Turkey is fast falling out of favour with the US and NATO. This can only be in our interest. As if Turkey is going to use the missiles.

I guess she will no longer be flavour of the month with the US. A good time for our people currently in NY to start making noises.

Balance of power is sure changing.

"...The four-celled HQ-9 launcher is very similar to that of the Russian S-300 SAM. The Chinese introductory brochure said the missile's range for aircraft targets is 7 to 125 kilometers, much lower than the 150-kilometer range of the Russian S-300 PMU1. This is the main reason China continues to import Russia's S-300 PMU2, which has a range of 200 kilometers. The HQ-9/FD-2000's firing altitude is 25 meters to 27 kilometers..."

It seems the range and capabilities are not yet up to par with the s-300 or s-400. Turkey is buying this particular Chinese system more for political reasons then military. Probably trying to buy a vote in the UN security council.

Here's a video for our Mandarin Chinese speakers comparing the two missile systems(s-300pmu/FD2000)

Yeah tell me about it. You've got so much power, you'll soon be able to attack Andorra.
