Rockeries

GIG

I recall a question about fluted limestone rocks found being abused in rockeries rather than left in nature, and if they came from Akamas, in particular the Avakas Gorge.

There is a good possibility it is from Akamas but I doubt it came from Avakas gorge as with gates etc it is a ling way to carry rock.

There are however lots of other places in Akamas area, from Pafos north, and even up towards Steni where I saw such rocks quite near the road and where it would be easier to obtain.

There was a shop selling the stuff just outside Pafos on the road up to Tsada. I did not bother calling in.

We were lucky enough to see a truly wild mouflon , not penned up, while we were away.

Hiya

My concern was that it was sourced from the Akamas in general, although I mentioned the restaurant near the Gorge which has a good supply of big chunks used to landscape its gardens. So beautiful; my worry was that it gave the many restaurant visitors ideas to go home and adorn their own gardens with the stuff - which in the past could be picked up off the side of the road, although the roads seemed deplete of the stuff (hence too late?).

Thanks for highlighting this problem now that you have seen it too. :)

Obviously shops supplying the rocks will spring up once people start demanding the stuff - so this has to be curtailed.

As for Mouflon ... have only ever seen them in the Paphos forest and somewhat into the Troodos.

Where exactly did you see yours?

There would have been a problem with that as during my Holiday I was either drinking wine or Carlsberg from the can.

We saw it crossing a forest road running up from Kannaviou to Stavros tis Psokas about 3km from Stavros tis Psokas.
