Is this the same Erdogan who said that ‘there is no country called Cyprus’?

Exactly because there is no "Cyprus" as a whole it is currently divided.

Cyprus is divided because Turkish troops occupy the north of the island. However, the Republic of Cyprus is recognised as the sovereign authority of the whole island. Therefore there is a country recognised as Cyprus under international law and Erdogan is mistaken and being provocative.

I do not think that the "Cyprus problem" can be settled for as long as Turkey believes that she has a claim on the island. The same is true for the TC's. For as long as they do not see themselves as a minority but an [ineffective] partner instead (read as steel ball and chain around your ankle and a gun pointing at your head), This round of talks will be no different than any round of talks before.

This is a correct analysis. It's clear the Turkish strategy is the same as it's always been. To claim they want a solution. Then put forward unacceptable proposals to undermine the talks. Then claim the GCs are being 'intransigent’. Then seek to upgrade the occupation regime.

Nothing has changed...

Yes indeed... only today the chap wandering around the Occupied Areas calling himself a "president of trnc"" has said very clearly that he aims for a Confederation (he used that exact word) and talked about something he calls the "Sovereignty" of the people he calls "tcs" .

The usual absolute maximum demands from Eroglu of the Criminal Gang known by some as "trnc" . ... and yes, nothing has changed in these demands in 60 years.

...as you say Lordo, there is a ceasefire between Turkey, and the rest of us (meaning the rest of the World).

and whether it started in '63 or '74 by "Greeks" or "Turks", only the Cypriots remain as victims to either.

...Cyprus is Greek, when it comes to Language (and with it Custom), it is in the coldest terms a matter of demographics. this is a fact that is only reinforced by Turkey's illegal attempts at changing them. as Cypriots, one hopes that both leaders realise the body that they represent first, are Cypriots, and that as Persons they can demonstrate this willingness to rise above the myth that there is a "motherland". the best Eroglu could do is to stand with Anastasiades to say, One Cyprus first, and as an Individual defend this, as Persons there should exist Cypriot Constituencies, and as a thinker he should ask for a Greek Constituency to be founded, an equal to others (including the Turkish Constituency); this is Bicommunal.

cheers!

I don't know guys I think turkey does not have partition in her thoughts I think she changed her policy after the dean Acheson plans in 1964. I think the Turks want a very weak confederation that she can control thru the tc.the actual republic as it is still in this form is a danger to her plans in the eastern med.Turkey wants a news state of affairs with some rump state that she can do as she pleases.I bet you if anastasiadis goes into this informal meeting and tells the tc "you know guys this is not working out let's go to a agreed partition with some minor adjustments to the annan plan maps,I bet ANkara will reject as will the British.

And this is a example why I believe this
