Even though we will all know Turkey has a very, very poor record of respect for human rights, the actual scale of the statistics revealed today by the hurriyet paper will prob come as a surprise.

Hurriyet reports on the massive number of cases that have been brought against Turkey at the ECHR.

A staggering 50,000 cases were filed against Turkey in the 10 years 2002-2012...!!!

Here's the first bit of the hurriyet article...

"... Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin has revealed that more than 50,000 applications were filed at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Turkey between 2002 and 2012.

Between May 2004 and the first half of 2012, Turkey was fined 180.94 million Turkish Liras for violations, Ergin said..."

50,000 cases against the State of Turkey at the ECHR in 10 years and that dribble is all you have to say about it...!!!

50,000 cases where Turkey has shate on human rights (almost exclusively its own citizens). Hundreds of journos in jail or too intimidated to write freely as well and in the wake of the Gezi Park protests the record is getting worse and worse.

If you don't exactly Love Turkiye Bordo then you're certainly quick and keen to defend this abysmal record.
