Turkey Embargoes "trnc" at Turkvision ...???

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Turkey Embargoes "trnc" at Turkvision ...???

Postby bill cobbett » Sun Sep 22, 2013 4:26 am

This one is straight out of Erdogan's Joke Book...

Having got nowhere at the Eurovision Song Contest, Turkey has withdrawn from it and the State Broadcaster TRT has set up the alternative called "Turkvision", in which some 20 countries with turkic minorities will participate later this year.

There is no reference to an entry from everyone's favourite Occupied Areas of "trnc" mentioned.

I don't pay a great deal of attention to the Eurovision Song Contest, so turned to Wikpedia and discovered thet Turkey had done quite well over the years.

"Since the introduction of the free language rule as well as televoting (in 1999 and 1997, respectively), Turkish entries have enjoyed much more success than in previous years. In 1997, Turkey finished 3rd with the song "Dinle" by Şebnem Paker. In 2003, Turkey won for the first time with "Everyway That I Can" by Sertab Erener, narrowly beating Belgium by two points. In 2004, the home entry in Istanbul, "For Real" by Athena, placed 4th. In 2007, "Shake It Up Şekerim" by Kenan Dogulu finished 4th as well. In 2008, the band Mor ve Ötesi ended 7th in the final. In 2009, Hadise achieved another impressive result for Turkey, obtaining a 4th position. In 2010, the nu metal band maNga obtained the second best placing ever for their homeland, winning the second semifinal and placing 2nd in the final. In 2011 Turkey was represented by pop-rock band, Yüksek Sadakat. In that year it was the first time that they did not qualify for the final. After a one year break, in 2012, Turkey made it to the final again and reached 7th position with Can Bonomo. Turkey announced on 14 December 2012 that they would not attend the 2013 competition in Malmö citing dissatisfaction with the rules of the competition."

Doesn't sound like 'having got nowhere'. Perhaps some researcher can tell us how RoC has done.

I'd say quite a successful run, rather than getting nowhere.

Quite a flimsy excuse that the voting system doesnt work(for them). I'd say it works quite well(for them). If they changed the rules it may get more of a joke......the UK could actually get a few points  Bonnie Tyler was an embarrassment this year!

It's all about the taking part, not the winning. Oh sorry, forgot, Turkey only likes to scream 'mine mine mine' in an attempt at being a winner.

Not very European of them eh ;)

Rather than wandering away as to how well Turkey has done or hasn't done in Eurovision (and by Turkey's standards winning is everything) nor is it about the music value of Eurovision, the question in the headline is ...

Has Turkey Embargoed the Illegal Regime of "trnc" from this competition... ???

Easy....they obviously think the trnc isn't Turkish enough.

Or maybe because its not connected by land

Maybe they plain forgot

Or maybe they just think the rubbish regime is just too rubbish to be allowed an entry

Or...... Conspiracy theory

Maybe they know something about the islands reunification talks, and the trnc won't be a Turkish occupation anymore by the time the talks have finished and 'Turkvision' is set to take place :o

Who knows, who cares .... It's only tv

Having got nowhere? Turkey is ahead of both Greece and South Cyprus on the overall medal table. Nowhere would suit South Cyprus, not Turkey!

The reason is that the rules changed for 2014. If Turkey partook this year they would have to first formally recognise the RoC.

Turkey did not participate in 2013 either! What rules are you talking about?

I agree with Turkey’s gripe!

Why do 5 countries get automatic promotion to the final?

Kinda reminds me of the UN layout… fucked up and full of corruption.
