An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the perceptible shaking of the surface of the Earth, which can be violent enough to destroy major buildings and kill thousands of people. The severity of the shaking can range from barely felt to violent enough to toss people around. Earthquakes have destroyed whole cities. They result from the sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. 63 years on from that harrowing real life event way back on September 10th 1953. Far too young to have known what a Sismos, earthquake, evoked, 7 year olds vocabulary did not contain this dreadful word, death of a loved one had not been experienced, the destruction that followed the catastrophic early morning earthquake in Stroumbi, Paphos, Cyprus' most catastrophic modern times quake, devastated the entire village shattering the lives of the inhabitants, causing panic, tears , bereavement, bewilderment and indelibly engraving this day deep in the minds of survivors.

Days before this date ,todays date, my subconscious serves me with a potent reminder of that dreadful day, each of us remembers the harrowing events that in a way shaped our lives.
