Perhaps this explains the poor state of education facilities in the occupied areas:

The regime spends more money for mosques than for schools

Under the title "The new school year is starting with problems", Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris newspaper (04.09.13) reports that Turkish Cypriot School Teachers' Trade Union (KTOS) has described as "saddening and distressing" the fact that deficiencies in education exist only few days before the beginning of 2013-14 school year.

The chairman and general secretary of KTOS, Guven Varoglu and Sener Elcil respectively, organized a press conference yesterday in order to refer to the existing problems and suggest measures that should be taken for the solution of these problems.

Elcil said that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government and Turkey's so-called embassy to the occupied part of Nicosia are offering "any kind of support" to the "religious orders and Sunni Islam teachings" within the framework of their assimilation and integration policies. Elcil noted that the expenses for Koran lessons this year are covered by the self-styled ministry of education and added that the financial support to the religious orders exceeds the budget in the field of education.

Elcil said: "While 11 million Turkish liras were spent this year for the repair of 60 schools and the construction of additional buildings, 22 million Turkish liras were separated for the mosque of the complex of buildings at Mia Milia".

I never did like the fact that in the North the only education you could have was a Turkish Muslim one. I had thought it was a bit of an extreme myth, that any other type of education was unavailable.

It seems that myth is actually reality........ Never mind brainwashing in the South, this is a far more sinister reality.

Brainwashing is the name Turkish muslim imams give to European education. I'm sick and tired of racist bigoted Turkish buffoons calling us out on supposed 'brainwashing' when they are unable to recognise simple things in their history such as the Armenian genocide.

Life is about the choices you make. As a child you are given the choice to go to school and learn, which will give you good standing to be a successful adult... Or bunk off and be a bum.
Sure, that's not much of one, but here, you get to choose the school you want to go to as a kid. If you want to go to a church school, fine(they aren't the same as when I attended church school these days).
However, in a country such as Cyprus where there is much diversity and the only choice you get is Muslim, ill funded, corrupt or no school, that's not much of a choice to be a successful person. That's oppressive and dictatorship.

All fvorms of religious studies should be included in the Mythology curriculum, instead of constant menta rape afflicted on the young minds.

Never in the long history of the human specie has religion ever contributed any thing but hatred and wars.
Time to shout our loud and crystal clear. Its a lie !!!

That's true for Islam, but Christianity has never contributed to hatred and wars.

IMO you are erroneously mixing true Christian faith with heretic Churches like the Catholic one, etc. Of course, it suits you right, because you have many vices. :x

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_Iconoclasm

The actions of the Byzantine Orthodox church brought about the destruction of the Byzantine empire through the continuous instigation and enforcement of bitter civil wars on petty religious subjects such as the use of pictures in churches and the gender of angels.

The Orthodox church is just a business trying to make money like all other businesses. The 'kryfo scholeio' was just a myth. Throughout Ottoman occupation the church taxed their subjects as much as they could, sometimes even more than the Ottomans did.

Hello we have better GCSE results than the south.....we have very good private schools far better than those in the south, just compare our graduating students which achieve far better university places in Turkey USA and UK than those in the south who are sent into the army to have further brain washing before they have a chance to form their own opinions in the real world outside of the south. Do you have any universities in the south?

I fixed it for you. Feel free to start your pilgrimage to Ergenekon to ask advice from the 'mother wolf'.
