Hiya FH

Well, there isn't really "a divide of North and South".

If the 47% are not ignorant enough to think Cyprus is on the mainland, they probably also know it is an island occupied by Turkey and half inaccessible. There are only a very few who think it is actually "divided" - mostly the Turk-supporters. It doesn't help us to make people think it is "divided". The whole island is the RoC after all. The best is that they know it's a Greek island and then they get the shock that Turkey has an army of 40,000 keeping out the Greeks from their homes of thousands of years.

Regardless of your nappy-tearing tantrums, the fact of the matter is Cyprus is getting some 53% of the British tourists coming here only because they believe Cyprus is part of mainland Greece.

- Bow down and thank Greece for attracting these tourists for us! 8)

Shameful thread at Cyprus' expense!

Also, some Brits not only may think Cyprus is a Greek Island but they also believe it is a Turkish island!

Tell a Brit, Aussie or American that your heritage is Cypriot and they will ask whether you are from the Greek part or Turkish part of the island!

Great!

That’s not what the article says but what you’re foolishly assuming.

Your hatred of Cyprus and all things Cypriot is worse than that of Turks!

29% thought Greece was a part of France...as the article shows they are not choosing Cyprus because they think it is a prt of Greece but because they do not give a toss about where they go provided the weather is warm...culture, let alone politics, don't come into it for most of them...and Flying Horse is right about general ignorance about Cypriot History.

We all know most people's geography (despite easy travel) is poor, and that many people don't care where they go so long as there's sand, sun, sea and .... peace!

Nevertheless, the interesting fact is that the majority (53%) of those holidaying in Cyprus, thought they were holidaying in Greece when booking for Cyprus.

The next largest figure was that of Turkey where 49% thought it was Ukraine. :D

Here's the article ...

Divide....as in that great big whopping buffer zone with crossing points, to get North or South. Ignorant to the fact there are thousands of Turkish troops occupying a large percentage. A lot of Brits haven't a clue!

I have a friend who goes to 'Pathos' every year on holiday....... I give up trying to give him a correction of name.

We should be holidaying later in the year in Cyprus. I bloody hope I don't get stopped by some fat turd with an Essex accent, shouting..."you English?" When near tourist spots.

A STAGGERING 53 per cent of Britons booked to go to Cyprus thought it was part of mainland Greece....

:D

The fault lies with the misleading Holiday advertisers. They should be sued under the Trade Description Act.

Are you suggesting that holiday companies are capitalizing on Greece's great holiday potential to offload holidays to Cyprus? :?

(From what I've noticed, the only companies selling holidays in a misleading way are those who capitalise on the name of Cyprus to sell holidays in the illegally occupied region!)
