Erdogan "Goebbels successor" says ex Israel minister
Relations between Turkey and Israel appeared to reach a new low this week after the Turkish Prime Minister Tayipp Erdogan said on August 20 that Israel was behind the coup in Egypt only for Israel's Former Foreign Minister and coalition partner, Avigdor Lieberman, to reply that the statement makes Erdogan a successor to Nazi propagandist Josef Goebbels.
On Tuesday Erdogan said in a nationally televised speech that Israel of being behind the ouster of Egypt's Islamist President Mohammed Morsi on July 3, offering as the only evidence for his claim a statement by a Jewish French intellectual during a meeting with an Israeli official.
The White House statement against Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdoğan’s Aug. 20 remarks about Israel being behind the military coup in Egypt is the strongest ever reaction by the U.S. against a Turkish leader so far. U.S. President Barack Obama’s spokesman did not only “strongly condemn” Erdoğan’s remarks, but also used words like “offensive, unsubstantiated and wrong” to describe the accusations.

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest said the comments were "offensive and unsubstantiated and wrong."
Meanwhile, the office of Egypt's new prime minister Hazem al-Beblawi said Erdoğan's latest words "have no basis in fact and are not accepted by any sane or fair person."
It also said Erdoğan's comments were intended to "target Egyptian national unity" and warned that Cairo's "patience was reaching breaking point."
