Exploitation. Pure and simple. When they can't use a country for their own gain, they just go quiet and neutral, stick their fingers in their ears, and pretend they ain't listening.

Yes! But they can surely SEE the SMOKE (signals)? Emerging from Egypt? And Syria?

...it won't be Turkey the US trusts (ie Wikileaks, remember?)

...it will be a chance for the US to promote dialog among Turkey's neighbours to look at their region differently.

...safety and security, that is to say no one gets blown up, and the sea remains pristine, are too important to deal with on a case by case basis. where Turkey claims that these responsibilities need care, it will get done without them, since Turkey insists it is a leader, and does nothing (as a bully).

...after the Annan Plan, it is easy to say that fifty years of Turkish Foreign Policy has failed, and more importantly this failure now indicates an Ignorance which is endemic in their own society, what with riots over "trees", the Kurds, and other ethnic and religious minorities, growing to represent a population in Turkey who may be Turks, but who are not "Turks", who demand their Individual Rights, and from this Freedom, the Liberty of their Persons. as time goes on, and if this denial continues, there will be the impetus to break Turkey up, as a State (that is Bicommunal), or as Nations, where ironically they get what they are offering to the Cypriot majority, as "Greeks".

...where there is smoke, it will clear. there is still the issue of Money and the Happiness we seek as Human Beings. profits are made by reducing costs, and when the smoke clears, Syria and Egypt will be friends, to cooperate on the exploitation of the sea's resources with others where Turkey can only win if they are Islamist states, as Islamist States; small odds, with the other interlocutors, and their interests on this issue.

I have been screaming this out since joining the CYF 7 years ago.Unlike some who continually and repetitively poured scorn on these two nations.

No you weren’t!

All you were doing was EXCUSING Israeli/US atrocities in the hope that one day they’d throw a crumb in your direction!

Your stance was disgraceful and pitiful.

Of Course. I don't particularly want to see the good old US of A poking their nose in yet another Arab countries business. It ALWAYS ends up messy(in some cases never ending). Whereas I don't mind the idea of them making all the right grumpy noises around the worlds table with regards to Egypt and Syria, it worries me if they start making more than that.
I'd be so bold to say the rest of the world would be rolling their eyes with 'here we go again' if the US made anything more than grumbling noises at this stage. Hence the quiet and neutral approach they give right now.
The USA can't resist a finger in every pie though, so inevitably they will pounce at the right timing. When something they want is really at risk.

On the point of Turkey. Well, I suppose its ok for them to speak a bit louder to gag Erdogan.

Some years ago we’d sometimes mention in the CyProb section that Cyprus is waiting for geopolitical change in order to deal with Turkey and our TC friends would laugh at us!

Today, they seem to be absent from this thread…

Even further back before the arrival of computers, Cypriots would often sigh and complain… “If only we had oil!”

In 1974 I was lying on a blanket on the hallways/balconies of a Limassol school where hundreds of refugees took temporary shelter when a very old man looked into my confused eyes and said…

“Worry not because it’s only a storm and every storm comes to an end.”

You have never, not once, posted anything that could be even minutely beneficial to the interests of Cyprus. You have posted more than 30,000, posts. You concentrated on surfing the net and copy pasting anything that showed either America or Israel in a bad light. You are the biggest, by far the biggest, bigoted ignorant peasant I ever came across. I suggest that you are in need of psychiatric treatment you PLONKER !

Milti, I’m a member in another place where a lot of foreigners and especially Americans are present. This site deals with a wide array of current affairs including politics where I never fail to tell Americans what I think of their foreign policies.

You’d be surprised how many Americans write to me and apologize for their country’s actions!

What Follys in American foreign policy??

People in the Arab world are revolting in order to have a chance at a better life...And instead of praising them for their courage you're sitting here needlessly complaining about an American finger that's causing these revolutions. If it is an American finger that's causing these people to riot and demand something better..again so what?

Back in the 20's 30's and 40's when Europe was being turned upside down with wars and idealistic thoughts from Hitler to dictator Mussolini and Franco of Spain, who would of thought that where millions upon millions were killed in wars, who would of thought then in the middle of those upheavals that Europe would look like what it looks like today..

Now it's the southern Med. that's seeing similar upheavals

Who's to say the Arab revolutions of today won't produce something spectacular for the Arabs and world in the future...?

America is in no position to offer Arabs/Muslims a better life when the US government hasn’t the slightest care for its own citizens!

Have a look at places like Skid Row (Los Angeles) for evidence:

Anyway, let's not let this matter drag on because it's off topic.
