Scandal in the Occupied Areas

Postby Demonax » Mon Aug 12, 2013 11:39 pm

There was outrage in the so-called 'parliament’ of the pseudo-state when a female MP made a 'scandalous' speech demanding equality and a united Cyprus:

According to major Turkish Cypriot media, the new 'Member' of the Republican Turkish Party in occupied Nicosia caused an upset today at the inauguration of the "parliament" when instead of reading the MP's oath, she read hers.

Doğuş Derya is a founding member of the "feminist workshop" (FEMA) and the first feminist 'Member' of the occupied territories. During the inauguration she said will work to not discriminate against anyone who lives in Cyprus because of language, religion, race, place of birth, social class, age, physical condition, gender and sexuality.

"We try to create a fair and equal system for all who will not exploit the worker. Will endeavor to replace the culture of violence and confrontation with the values of peace and approach, I will stay committed to the principles of a democratic, socially just state and human rights and freedoms. I swear the price of humanity that will not forsake them ideal for establishing a federal Cyprus. "

The disruption was terrible... The acting "president" of the pseudo-parliament interrupted her not allowing her to complete the reading of the oath and broke the meeting for five minutes while the "State" TV BRT stopped the live broadcast.

The "MP" does not hesitate to speak to reporters who "bombarded" her with questions. "The current oath must be updated in accordance with modern requirements. So I chose to read something more modern" she replied.

After all this, Derya ascended the step and read normally the vows of an "MP".

This is approx the controversial part of the radikal report...

This is what the lady said in place of taking the usual vow...

"Every individual living in the territory of Cyprus, is not to be discriminated against because of language, religion, race, place of birth, class, age, physical condition, gender or sexual orientation, rather than the culture of conflict and violence we have now, we show the values of peace and reconciliation efforts for the establishment of democracy, social and human rights and freedoms, to abide by the principles of the rule of law, respect for human dignity and will not give up on the ideal of building a federal Cyprus. "

... but following uproar and a suspension of what passes as a "parliament"... she took the usual oath, which goes something like...

"The existence and independence of the state, the indivisible unity of the country and the people, to defend the sovereignty of the people unconditionally, the rule of law, democratic, secular and social state of law and to abide by the principles of Atatürk, work for the welfare and happiness of my people, human rights and fundamental rights and freedoms of every citizen depart from the ideal that the benefit of and commitment to the Constitution, under penalty of perjury and drink. So when certain TCs demand 'equality' in a future state, can we assume this is what they mean?

we, that is Cypriots, are not that far apart, and the words this lady speaks are not that far from the original oath. the impasse does not change without the voice denied for so long, Cypriots who believe in Cypriots, a dialog will open, it is natural, and not so long ago actually that the gates were opened.

...looking forward, i see the Cyprus Flag fly higher, and then it becomes another twisted nightmare because somebody has to die. yet with the example of the Occupation Movement in Cyprus, as Cypriots they did that, we already know which direction the youth have taken, not "English", not "Turkish", not "Greek".

A friend has posted this interpretation of the alternative oath that caused so much upset in the "trnc" supposed "parliament" and the reaction to it there...

"For international friends: Today, the first feminist MP of northern Cyprus, Dogus Derya, decided to eschew the traditional oath in the parliament for an alternative written by herself, calling the original text patriarchal and masculine. While her speech got censored by many TV stations, various MP's also walked out in protest, yet messages of widespread support went viral on Facebook and Twitter. Here is the full text of Derya's speech:

“I swear on my dignity as a human being, to work to protect every individual living in the country of Cyprus from discrimination based on language, religion, race, birth place, class, age, physical ability, gender or sexual orientation; to make a concentrated effort to create a just and equal environment in which labor is not exploited, to strive to replace the culture of conflict and violence with values of peace and reconciliation, to remain committed to democracy, principles of social law state, and fundamental human rights and freedoms, and to never give up on the dream of establishing a federal Cyprus.”
