The quick answer is that the territory marked as "America" was found to be very rich in gold and oil, especially Texas that was won/seized/purchased from the Mexicans.

But anyway, what has being a "superpower" got to do with intelligence?

Nations/people bestowed with the title of “superpower” have been many and changing over the millenniums. Even the Ottomans had that title in the 16th and 17th centuries.

America is a superpower because it freely allows immigration.. Who do you think revolutionized computer networks or improved cell phones etc...a bunch of Indians and Pakistanis and Asians who immigrated

Michio Kaku, I love that guy. He also mentions in another video that he made an atom collider (like the one at CERN) in his garage. That's how he got the genius visa (H-1B).
