Sure - all back to the status quo whereby the EU gives Turkey more and more grants and aid because it needs to be "saved".

You really do sound like Viewpoint! What's wrong with you? Please stop it.

The Turks are laughing at us. Isn't that what VP has told us all along? I for one do not support any more aid to Turkey or further inclusion in EU affairs. I also think the negotiations should stop completely and an ultimatum should be given to Turkey to withdraw from Cyprus. Then the EU has to prove itself by carrying out the threat, e.g. economic sanctions etc

There you go again with your Ottoman mindset. Turkey's EU accession has stopped. Or haven't you noticed? It can't proceed without a solution on Cyprus. It's over for them otherwise. Even Turkey knows this. But for some reason, you and Viewpoint think that things can carry on as usual.

I suggest you stop reading Viewpoint's posts. You clearly think he's some kind of prophet when he's just an idiot.

Well, I think that Turkey would like to see things carry on as usual since it was doing so well. Holding on to Cyprus and being rewarded with EU trade and grants.

My call is for the EU to stop feeding Turkey freebies and start imposing some sanctions. Is that what Viewpoint wants?

As opposed to freezing its negotiating process, obliging it to implement the Ankara Protocol, recognise Cyprus and solve the Cyprus 'problem' before it can proceed with its accession?

Cutting off funds would be a good idea and will surely happen if things continue to go nowhere. Let's see what happens in the Autumn. I doubt the EU can open more than one chapter without Turkey conceding on the Ankara Protocol.

Exactly one.

Even that is ONLY provisionally, which means, it is NOT completely closed yet. In another words, Turkey has 34.999 chapters yet to close out of the 35 needed.

Can't you see? This "Closing Chapters" malarky ain't getting us anywhere!

Stop supporting their games!

Why should Cyprus be used in this way?

"It's the economy, stupid"!

Turkey's economy and it's survival revolves around the EU no matter what Ayip Erdogan or that idiot Bagis says. It is not a two way street with the EU as they would like to preach. The EU can do without Turkey but not the other way around. The EU holds Turkey's "economic balls" in her hands, so it is only a matter of time before the EU starts squeezing, for Turkey to grant the EU what she demands and October will be a good time to do that when the EU will give Turkey an "F" on her EU report.

With or without Cyprus etc...that supposedly blocking their chapters, has anyone thought of the fact that these may be smoke screens to Turkey' inability to close anymore chapters because they won't be able to...for instance how can Turkey implement a certain tax guide in Kurdish Turkey when Turkey doesn't have full control of the region

Who cares what "marks" Turkey gets. It is occupying an EU member state. Who was it that said to me ..... Would the USA bargain with someone occupying half of Florida? Would it give the occupier "marks" and second chances to do better in some obscure tests?

Big talk. The EU is not the USA. It is not a federal state so your comparison is meaningless. We would all like the EU to take on Turkey on our behalf: either through sanctions or militarily. But they are not going to.

So stop fantasising. We are using the EU mechanisms available to us and we should use them more forcefully in our interests. We have the power to veto Turkey's EU accession if we want. But we have chosen a strategy of freezing the chapters, enhancing our sovereignty and using EU diplomatic and economic means to squeeze Turkey and the pirate state.

So stop fantasising about things that aren't going to happen. It's just talk and bluster.

I'm.going to be quite blunt here, anyone wishing to flame me go ahead.

Turkey will never get in the EU. The EU doesn't want a Muslim state amongst the Old Boys club. It just wouldn't be cricket. This 35 chapter milarky was devised to be practically impossible for Turkey to complete. Plain and simple.

Turkey are two faced. They've tried to up the ass licking of the Middle East by being more Islamic and its backfired in more than one way. Now having gone off whimpering from that, they now try sucking up and Brown nosing the EU again.
Which will be welcomed......with a big Fuck Off!
