They are so keen to give a derelict battered Varosha back (which requires billions in investment to yield anything) in exchange for direct flights to the illegal airport in the north which yields immediately for them.
Not only will the price of the stolen property in the north increase in value for them, it will essentially help them get richer through direct trade too, while alleviating Turkey's financial burden. Such an exchange would also end the problem as far as they are concerned, even without the formal recognition.
Anyone who thinks or thought that this was or is a good or fair trade off needs to get their head examined. The embargoes should remain to squeeze the sh*t out of them to get out.
Excellent points, Maximus. The 'embargoes' will stay. And of course the Varosha deal will remain on the table - which as long as Turkey refuses to consider, makes them fully responsible for keeping the 'embargoes' in place.
