They are using this for all its worth and there are thousands who will jump on the bandwagon yet they do not understand what a Republic is and what will change or know anything about the US style Presidential System.

It really is quite sad and quite insulting actually. The media think we are all idiots.

Hopefully Turnbull will sort things out. For those that don't know, Turnbull spearheaded the Republican Movement some years ago.

The hazards of a republican system....

Who would of thought a pic like would be possible 10 years ago...a black president and a midget

I concur, but I'm biased as its my youngests first name*

Although my eldest said today that the Royal baby should be named 'Geoff'.....no idea why, it was his random thought of the day

*Named after Oliver Reed, as we couldn't think of the Greek alternative.

Oh, well, there was a King Geoffrey who was responsible for founding the Plantagenet dynasty. But that was more 'British' (i.e. French) than the present royals who are German. :D So, probably not!

But in fairness to him, he set up a 12 million euro fund from his compensation to help the people of Greece.

Back to the Son of the Royal Couple. Looking at the lineages, we could be in for a Paul. :D

I wouldn't call a country that has had no Coups, political turmoil or civil war as anachronistic.

The political system actually works well, a little too well, which goes against the Republican Movement.

Certainly, a country deposing the monarch with a Junta in power is what I would call anachronistic.

That's because you say anything even if it contradicts what you said earlier, simply to say something.

Of course it's anachronistic to have a monarchy and it seems you agree (see earlier posts) except when it comes to criticizing Greece for not having a monarchy. This is why you sound insincere and appear trollish.

Do you have any idea how bloody some revolutions to remove the monarchy have been? At least the Greeks did it in a civilised manner, despite it being initiated by the most unlikely source.

This abolition was confirmed after the fall of the junta by a plebiscite on 8 December 1974, which established the Third Hellenic Republic. Constantine, who was not allowed to return to Greece to campaign,[1] accepted the results of the plebiscite.

I thought your posts were a shameless attempt to denigrate Australia and compare it to Greece when in actual fact there is no comparison.

The Monarch in Australia is very seamless. Just symbology and your posts indicate that you have never been to Australia and have no clue.

I do not agree with the Monarchy, but it may work well for the UK. I would not call them Anachronistic. If anything maybe a little stuffy and elitist which is not the Australian way. But it is better than to be afflicted with the instability of Greece. Civil War in the late 40s, and a Coup that bought the invading Turks to Cyprus. Even recently, an unelected technocrat and political and economy disarray.

Yes Greece had a referendum, but the Junta was in power and whilst no King lost their head, university students and political dissidents did!

No Way! You can keep that!

My real point, which you seemed to miss, is the former Greek Monarch is closely related to the Windsors, hence he is related to Australia's Head of State. Not only that, but did you find it a little odd that it is the Bavarian Lutheran community that invited him in the first place. He is related to the blue blood lines of Bavaria and Holland.

You're the only one who has shamelessly and trollishly brought up Australia from your very first post here. Do you even understand what you read in your haste to accuse for a reaction?

The thread has been about names for the baby. Stop derailing!

I bought it up because I find this baby stuff a little over the top and over done, hence I mention the Republican Movement.

I do not see any problem with that as it is quite relevant since this is being milked for all its worth.

We are still talking about the Royal Family and if we are to discuss names, this thread would have been dead long ago.

The closest thing to a derailment here is when YOU went out of your way to use the label Anachronism, resulting in me dissecting this faux pas!

I reckon they should name the baby Bob!
