As its the anniversary of his death, it would be nice to be able to finally find out where he belonged, and pay respect to his memory if possible where he lived and grew up when we come over later in the year.

There were no street names in small villages pre 74. Ours had about 1300 residents and no street names, and yours looks smaller.

If you want to look around to spot a street or house feed this into Google Earth:

B: Relatives belonging to our family if they still exist in Cyprus, on Father in Laws side.

Any clearer? :?

If you want to find out whether he owned any land, you need to visit the nearest (free) land registry and show them his death certificate and evidence that you are related. They will search and let you know and it costs a few euros and takes a few hours.

Thankyou for that.

Is it true, that even though a person has passed away in the UK, they pass that details back to Cyprus. I had heard something along those lines.

No. You have to register the death in Cyprus as far as I know.

Details aren't passed to CY... something you have to do in person and in CY and you'll have to jump through the following hoops...

Take the Certified Copy of the entry in the Death Certificate Register to a Notary Public in GB. You swear an oath and they'll stamp it as genuine.

You then take the notarised certificate to the CY High Commission in London (or possibly at a Consular Office) and they'll look at it it and stamp it as well.

You can then present the notarised and authenticated certificate to any department in CY.

Hopefully you can be pointed in the right direction and be given more contacts in Cyprus.

Good luck.

If you added the period after 'edu' then that may be why. Did you just click the link?? Try again.

Thankyou for that, very interesting....and rather complex!
No idea where i got the idea from there :? Somehow somewhere I've appeared to have misheard. I could have sworn somebody said the Orthodox Church had winged the death info to Cyprus.
No problem, I'll get on that as soon as I can!

I'm in the UK. The other half is a Greek Cypriot born in the UK....Both parents from beloved Cyprus, sadly passed away now.

Seem to have found this place by accident, on my travels through the tinterweb looking for ways of finding information about where our little family descends from....big blank wall everywhere! Well, I do know where they came from, but finding anything about the North is about as useful as a chocolate fire guard, especially as I don't read and speak Greek!

Maybe after the intro, and the hello, I might be able to see if I can find help within these pages and its members!

Later in the year we aim to come over, to try and trace where his dads family were prior to '74, pinpointing exact location is as easy as finding if there are any relatives left on his fathers side in Cyprus too. Currently, here in the UK, there is him, and our son, you can imagine searching for things is errrrrr not getting anywhere!
Long term aim.......return back to the homeland for good!

So yeah, Hello from ME :D

Hi .....well come ...hoping that you can trace your family roots....

Please try to get in touch with this lady. here is the her page.
