I cannot verify if its pure fabrication or fact.
At the notorious "Boer War" (1899-1902), a man from the Greek area of Epirus, took part voluntarily, by the side of Boers. His name was John Costas (Greek name: Giannis Constas) and he hailed from the border village "Lia" of Filata in Thesprotia. It is the only Greek name mentioned in historical records, although it is said that many Greeks fought by the side of the oppressed Boers against the British colonialists.

Yes the Boer war was not a shining example for Britain, consisting as it was of artificially contrived events designed to create a semblance of legitimacy, a complete charade on the part of the British, for invasion conquest and occupation of the Boer Republics. The most shameful thing of all was the invention of the concentration camp by the British where Boer civilians, mostly women and children, were rounded up and confined in the most appalling of conditions, where as a consequence of neglect if not brutality very many died of starvation and Disease. Shamefully, absolutely shamefully. The whole thing was a complete and utter disgrace which I unreservedly condemn.
